Did I carb load with a paella?

A few weeks back, I posted about how Boyfriend’s stepfather was sick and we were canceling our trip to Phoenix, thus resulting in me canceling my marathon in Albuquerque. However, with no other Labor Day weekend plans on the horizon and Boyfriend in the midst of that crazy deck for work (that would probably keep him tied up until Saturday at least), I came up with a great gameplan. Since there was a routing to go through Vegas to get to Albuquerque, I booked that for a roundtrip, leaving early Saturday morning and arriving in Albuquerque late afternoon. I’ll be …

Healthy Meal: Well-Dressed Salmon

After an amazing time at the wedding this weekend – but way too much delicious wedding food and drink – it’s now time for some detox. When most people “detox,” they mean some stupid restrictive diet that ends up with them probably less healthy when they started. My version of detox is far healthier and far more delicious: I just avoid junk food, limit starchy carbs, and load up on the fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. Top (Heavy) Chef

In my old job, I used to complain that it made me fat because I had to eat out all the time. I hated that I was seen as picky if I tried to modify orders or get just a salad – it sucked. However, an article in the Times profiles Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef. While I watch Top Chef every week and drool over the delicious eats, I never before considered the fact that she doesn’t just have a lucky metabolism – she actually has to eat all those fatty foods! I mentioned last week that I was …

Running marathons in 50 states is expensive!

This is certainly not a personal finance blog, but I’ll admit that I’ve been struggling a bit lately with managing my money. It’s not that I’m deep in debt or unable to pay rent or anything like that, but I’ve been spending outside my means – for dumb reasons. Looking at my spending more carefully, the biggest culprit is going out to eat. Until a few months ago, going out to eat (on my own dime, not counting business meals) was a rare event. Now, I eat out quite a bit, because that’s where the majority of my bookclubs, meetup …
