Hello from my layover!

It’s a good thing my race is tomorrow, or I’d be giving up the raw vegan diet and trading it in for the “all froyo all the time” diet. Seriously, the Denver airport has not one, not two, but THREE froyo places in the main terminal. I peeked in one (hey, it was combined with the sandwich shop where I grabbed lunch) and they had eight flavors of regular hard ice cream and TEN flavors of soft serve froyo! I’m a little nervous for when I fly back on Sunday… my flight from Denver to New York is overbooked, and …

New week, new part of the country

Got word from my staffing manager tonight that a project manager put a hold on me for something starting on Monday… in Austin, Texas! I’ve never been to Austin and have always heard great things. The project would be for ten weeks, so that would give me plenty of alt-travel opportunities for marathons (too bad I already booked a ticket to Wyoming). But hurray! Now let’s see if it actually happens… they have until 8:30 PM tomorrow to confirm me or else the hold gets released. I’m putting odds at 60/40 that it will happen. Yes, consulting is crazy!

It’s supposed to be a tough race, but also one of the most amazing and unique marathons you can do. I’m not trying for a fast time, but will instead just enjoy the race and the beauty of the course, and bring my camera to take pictures along the way. This means I may …

Wednesday night miscellany

The past few weeks at work have been a bit crazy. The good news is, only one more day and I’m done in St. Louis! I’ve enjoyed it here, but I’ve been working long hours (nights, weekends, you name it – I even put in some hours in San Fran doing work). The project is going into a really relaxed phase, so I’m being dropped off the project starting Monday, and I may return to it in a few weeks, but that’s yet to be determined. In the meantime, I’m heading back to New York tomorrow and will be there …

Race Report: San Francisco Marathon

I realized after the race that I never blogged about my goals for it. Basically, my dream goal was to PR, meaning under 4:14. I thought there was next to no chance of this, however, as my PR was set in Calgary which was basically pancake-flat, while the SFM course was supposed to be really hilly. My “within reach” goal was to finish somewhere between 4:15 and 4:30, and my “I will be so mad at myself if I don’t achieve this” goal was to finish under 4:41 (my current personal worst, set on a miserably hot day in Seattle). …
