Event: Run With The Horses Marathon
Race/Category: Marathon
In two weeks, I’m off to Green River, Wyoming for the Run with the Horses Marathon! 26.2 miles on a dirt road in “High Desert Country.” And the coolest part is, there are wild horses running beside you!!! It’s supposed to be a tough race, but also one of the most amazing and unique marathons you can do. I’m not trying for a fast time, but will instead just enjoy the race and the beauty of the course, and bring my camera to take pictures along the way.
This means I may finally have to suck it up and get a fuel belt, because I don’t want to keep my camera in my sports bra like I’ve done for my fuel in the past – it’s too bulky. Anyone have recommendations on a good fuel belt with pockets for stuff? I don’t care so much about carrying water bottles – really just want to be able to carry camera, shot blox, and sports beans. I may just buy a cheap fanny pack and never use it again after this race.
I’m flying directly into Rock Springs, Wyoming the day before for the shrimp boil (sounds cool instead of the typical pasta party!), but will be flying out of Salt Lake City the day after the race (so August 22-24). If anyone is in the area, my plan for Saturday night is watching the men’s Olympic marathon on television at the hotel bar or something – let me know if you’re interested!
Marathon calendar has been updated.
I wish I could remember what brand this one running skirt was… It had big pockets on the sides of the undershorts… *grrrrrr*
Looks like a fun marathon!!! Good luck, go safe!
I use the ASICS mini waistpouch (http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/ASW1608/) when I don’t need to carry water. There’s a belt loop on the left side which is what I use to carry my camera. I fit 8 Gu’s in the pouch for my marathon, so you should have plenty of room.
Good luck!
Wow, that looks like a GREAT marathon. I love horses so if I could, I’d join you!
That is SOOO cool!! My only thoughts: won’t it smell? lol. (Just watch out for the piles of horse poo!)
I’ll be looking forward to the pictures!
I am right in the middle of reading 50/50/50 by Dean Karnazes. Boy, I am visioning myself to run in marathons in all 50 states. I was floored when I looked at your calendar. I would love to go to Wyoming marathon that you are going to. *droooooling* Can I make one small request? Don’t run in the Atlantic City marathon in NJ! (Thumb down) I would highly recommend you to run in New Jersey marathon which is a thousand times better than AC! You can check this out at http://www.njmarathon.org
Good Luck running with the Wild Horses!
What a sweet race! That is definitley going to be a race to remember!!!
My fuel belt is pretty old, so it has a mini-pocket, but nothing big enough for a camera. Maybe a cycling shirt? They usually have pretty good pockets in the shirt… although it might be a little awkward.
Yeah! That marathon sounds like fun! I can’t wait to see your pics! Hmmm…in reference to Chia’s comment-I have a Title nine skirt (http://www.titlenine.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=2106&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=702&iSubCat=703&iProductID=2106) that has a pocket in the back that may be able to hold a small camera. I’ll check to see if my camera fits and get back to you.
I run with an Amphipod fuel belt that has a small pouch which can fit a Lumix camera. I typically just wear the belt when racing since there’s typically enough water stops, however, I have an upcoming race where support is limited so I’ll be strapping on the bottles as well.
hey laura – have you had enough time to recover from the SF marathon? Seems like a lot of racing in a short period of time… Just be careful!
Wow, that race sounds INCREDIBLE. I am so excited to hear all about it! Also, I’m going to have to suggest a SpiBelt for stashing your camera, etc. . . . those things are great! (http://www.overtonfitness.com/spibelt.php). They look small, but they expand quite a bit, so you can really store a lot of stuff in there.
Holy crap. You are CUHHHRAZY. I love it.
ohhhh this one looks fun!!!
Just looked at your marathon calendar:
Do the Breakers Marathon!!!! That’s what I’m getting ready for…and really, your other option in Rhode Island (the Providence Marathon) is too new and no where near as picturesque.
