Thanksgiving Marathon Eve

Last night I tried a new strategy to get enough sleep before my race. I went to bed at 8 PM, planning to sleep until 10 or so when Boyfriend would come over to hang out. I figured we’d get to bed around 1, which would means I’d still get my 8 hours of sleep. Instead, he got stuck at work and didn’t get to my place until after midnight. We still went to bed around 1, so I ended up getting 11 hours of sleep! I hoped that would make me feel a bit better. However, I still woke …

How to lift weights in your hotel room when there are no weights (or water bottles) to be found

Somehow knowing I’ll have to McGyver a workout routine motivates me to actually do it. Please note that I’ve been home and around an actual gym and weights for at least two months, yet haven’t done any lifting until now. Thank goodness for hotel lamps and ottomans and coffee tables!

(It doesn’t take much to make me happy!) I stocked up on the bars before leaving, because until I actually left the airport and was in Manhattan, I was technically traveling and could expense them. The bad: I’m totally annoyed that my new client is a processed foods distributor. Think frozen dinners, instant everything, and basically preservatives/chemicals galore. There are definitely no raw food bars here! The …

Non-scale victories

Yesterday was a major victory for me, for several reasons. I’m up at Cornell to do various recruiting events, and yesterday was the big career fair (today there is a second smaller one just for engineering students). I knew I’d be seeing a lot of people from my past, so like a high school reunion, I wanted to look sharp. I brought my favorite suit to wear… and then I put it on in the morning and found that it was a little baggy! On the one hand I was disappointed that I wouldn’t look super polished, but on the …
