The world is conspiring to make me lazy

Didn’t leave the office until 8:30 PM, and I had to bring a bunch of work home with me too. Tonight’s workout was just 20 minutes of mostly leg lifts in various positions to try to get my calves/butt/thighs a good workout while I reviewed some decks (deck = consultant speak for PowerPoint presentation). And then… Me: Hi, may I please get a wakeup call for 5:45?Front desk: 5:45?Me: Yes, 5:45.Front desk: Why on earth would you want to get up at 5:45?Me: Um, I want to go to the gym. It’s open then, right?Front desk: Yes, it’s open 24 …

I did a morning run!

So I’ve been really slacking on the morning workouts ever since… well, ever since the marathon. I took the week before it off almost completely, which was a big mistake. When I was running it, I felt out of shape like I hadn’t worked out for a week… which I hadn’t. And then I took the week after off, because I was sore and also felt that I deserved a little break. Unfortunately, it is really hard to force yourself to get up at 5:30 AM to work out. It took me a while to get into that habit, and …

Tonight’s hotel workout

Too lazy to go downstairs to the gym, mainly because I’m at a new hotel and I haven’t checked it out yet and have no idea if it’s good or crappy. Is there a TV? Is there music? Are there machines or just free weights? What kind of cardio equipment is there? Are there individual TVs built into the cardio machines? So many questions! I don’t want to waste my time walking down there if it sucks – heaven forbid I actually burn a few calories walking from my room to the elevator and then to the gym! So instead, …

Getting back on track

Lately I’ve been reading this awesome book, The Wall Street Diet. I saw it featured somewhere online, and even though it was a marketing pitch and not an unbiased review, I was still intrigued. The author, Heather Bauer, promised to understand the challenges of the executive lifestyle: constantly being offered delicious food that you could never afford if it weren’t free, cocktail parties where you munch on hors d’oeuvres for hours but then still feel the need to eat dinner later, client dinners at steakhouses where you get looked at like you have two heads if you try to order …

Double Day: The Ultimate Absolut(ly) Fit Challenge

A “double” typically refers to two marathons in one weekend. However, since I’m totally hardcore (and certifiably crazy), today is my double day, and I’m doing two marathons in one day! Okay, so one isn’t a running marathon, and the other is me doing a marathon course and not an organized race. But it’s BOSTON, the granddaddy of all marathons, and I actually went further than 26.2 (I haven’t mapped it yet to know exactly how much further). I woke up at 5:45, threw my running stuff on, and headed out. My hotel is about 1/10 mile from the finish …
