Emphasizing my OOO

Last Thursday, I got a reminder from my company to check out my “total rewards” page on the intranet. I dutifully went to the page to make sure that my 401k and other investment allocations were where I wanted them to be, and I happened to glance over to another part of the page and see my vacation balance. As luck would have it, I had just earlier that day finished reading an interesting article in the Harvard Business Review around employees not taking their vacation… and I am definitely one of the guilty ones there. Although I earn 22 …

Choosing The Simple Life… and Accepting the Consequences

Neighborhood_Walk

This weekend, with Adam‘s help, I went back to the simple life. We spent Friday night at the baseball game downtown, where my company hosts an annual event with amazing field-level seats. And then on Saturday, we planned literally nothing all day long, slept late, and got errands done. I now have a new stainless steel dishwasher! Laura_Running_Fathers_Day

In it, she talks about her desire to find a hobby, and raised some interesting points around defining hobbies. Does something count as a hobby if, like watching movies and reading books, it’s something everyone does? (Does everyone read books lately or has it been taken over by “screen time”? Maybe that is distinguishing after all.) If you’re going to talk about hobbies as part of who you are, shouldn’t they be distinctive and …

Getting it Together: One Week Till Thirty

21st_Birthday

A week from today is my 30th birthday. WOW, that happened fast! About a month ago, I was really excited about my 30th birthday. I felt like I was incredibly on top of everything and that I was right where I should be for 30. I have a job I love, the beautiful house of my dreams, a boyfriend I’m crazy in love with, and a group of friends who are the best. I’ve been making a lot of progress toward making every day my perfect day, and I’ve been really happy with the results. Life is just great! But …
