Blocking my Time with PTO

Short and sweet post today, but I wanted to share what a successful day I had at work. I had originally requested today as a PTO day, so that I could spend time with a visiting houseguest. I blocked off my calendar, shifted all meetings to Wednesday and Friday, and started working my butt off to ensure that I could have all the loose ends tied up and be able to take the day off. I swear, sometimes it’s easier to just keep working instead of trying to take time off! (And it should be noted that I am a …

Getting Away from the Guilt of Email

Little_Laura_Hiking

The last week or two, I have just felt overwhelmed. I’ve definitely had too much on my plate, and it’s forced me to really start getting productive. If you need something to get done, ask a busy person, right? While ordinarily that kind of hyperfocused productivity would be a good thing (and it’s definitely paying off at work), lately it’s also come with kind of a big heaping plate of guilt at the things I’m letting slide. My Energy Audit: Making Great Strides!

Energy Audit

I know it’s only Wednesday, but wow, what an amazing week so far! I’m out in sunny California to observe a training program that all our senior associates go through shortly after promotion, and preparing to potentially take on a part-time role helping to deliver the program in the future. Fingers crossed that I get the role, as it’s one I’m really passionate about! The “Discover Program” is all about exploring yourself and your values to be able to make more effective choices about your life and your career. It’s a lot of self-discovery, leadership development exercises, and tips on …

Learning to Catch Curveballs

Adam and Laura + Tower of Bread Pudding

As I mentioned on Friday, things have been really crazy busy for me lately… which meant that I headed out to Phoenix for Easter this past weekend stressed beyond belief. I was really worried that my stress wouldn’t subside and that I would spend the whole weekend being a Debbie Downer. Luckily, Adam came through like a champ and made my visit really fantastic and fun; it wasn’t until the plane ride home that I even remembered all the things that had been getting me down. Just what I needed! On Friday, I had mentioned wanting the weekend to be …
