Weekend Recap: Short and Sweet

Coffee_Instead_Of_Ice_Cream_For_Dessert

What a quick weekend! I got home at 11pm Thursday night, and had to be out the door at 4:30am Friday to do a volunteer shift at Denver Rescue Mission before work. It was a busy day at work, coupled with another volunteer activity in the afternoon – this one at Girls Inc. A group of my colleagues organized an event where we led the girls in various activities. I was responsible for the cookie decorating station, which was definitely a hit! Friday night, I managed to get a full 8.5 hours sleep, which was glorious. I hit up a …

Did you know that January 17th was “Ditch Your Resolutions Day”? It’s the day most people already give up on their well-intentioned New Year’s goals of getting in shape and working out more – which I think is such a shame. The research goes back and forth on exactly how long it takes to form a habit (21 days? 60 days?) but seventeen days is definitely not long enough. For many people, the holiday season means Christmas, and they’re super excited. But to be perfectly candid, I don’t really love Christmas – it’s a pretty stressful time of year for me. However, I love what comes right after Christmas: the days leading up to New Year’s, when everyone is thinking about potential resolutions. What a great time of hope and possibilities! I’ve been noodling on various resolutions for a few weeks, trying to think about what I hope to accomplish in 2017. I don’t have it all figured out yet, but wanted to share some of my thoughts in …

Why You Should Set One More Goal in 2016 (It’s Not Over Till It’s Over)

Today is December 15th – which means we’re already halfway through the last month of the year. Where did 2016 go?! All across the blogosphere, people are writing their “year in review” posts and even beginning to discuss their goals for 2017. But 2016 isn’t over – don’t give up on it yet! Steve Kamb over at Nerd Fitness recently wrote a great post on staying healthy in winter, and he had this sage advice to offer for the month of December: “Think of it like you’re on the starting line of a race for a healthy life that starts …
