Laura Does Chicago

I started a post entitled “Laura does Dallas,” but it sat on my desktop instead of getting finished and posted on Blogger, and now I’m no longer in Dallas… I’ve traded it in for Chicago. Woo! So to catch you all up to speed… After a fabulous fourth of July weekend (in which I flew halfway across the country for a second date with a guy I met the week before – yes, I am bold) and an amazing 25th birthday (in which I celebrated reaching my 50×25 goal by drinking tons of craft beer and celebrating with so many …

Back on the Wagon

Sorry for the six day disappearance – it would seem that I never get around to posting on my good days. Okay, not that this weekend constituted “good days.” I mean, they were fantastic days from a fun perspective, and from a Mexican perspective as well… but not so much from a diet standpoint. Saturday afternoon, I went to Mexican brunch with my book club, then went for Mexican dinner with my college girlfriends, then went to a dive bar and played Jenga all night long, reveling in the fact that I didn’t have to get up for a marathon …

More marathon advice inspired by The Biggest Loser

This morning at the gym, I watched the first half of the Biggest Loser Finale. I love the finale episodes – it’s always so fun to see exactly how far they’ve come! Though I really wish they’d do away with the contestants first appearing in those awful party outfits – the girls are always stuffed into their satin shiny dresses, while the men are wearing tight Euro-style suits… and I swear they don’t look that different than their before pictures! To me, the big reveal is when they change into their workout attired and I can compare them to the …

The Post-Workout Race

I’ve actually been getting a bit better about working out since totally blowing it off this weekend. On Monday, I got up at 6:30 and did 30 minutes on the Gazelle trainer before work. But… as I was leaving the gym, I saw a sign that there was a new Zumba class on Monday nights. Sold! The only trick was, it was an hour long class (7:30pm-8:30pm) and I had plans to meet a friend for drinks at 9pm. I decided to go for it. I dashed home from work for the class, and got home with twenty minutes to …

A sign that I should get to the gym more often

This morning, I planned to go for a 4-5 mile run to see how my knee was doing and decide if I was able to run the National Marathon this weekend. However, I overslept and ended up with only enough time to do a quick 10 minute workout. Though it was a beautiful day, I decided that I wasn’t going to run outside for just one mile. Instead, I’d (finally) take advantage of my gym membership and hit the treadmill. It had been weeks (months even maybe?) since I had last gone, and it was time to start getting my …
