Weekend Recap: Turning Point and Feeling Good

Pinch_Of_Yum_Brussel_Sprouts_Salad

Still catching up on weekend recaps… this is October 20/21. After a week of flying almost every day (Florida on Monday, back to Colorado Tuesday night; New York on Thursday, back to Colorado Friday), I was so excited to get home late Friday night and know that Saturday wasn’t going to be too crazy. I had three meetings with residents in the morning, but then my afternoon was gloriously open – something that hasn’t happened almost my entire campaign!  I was able to get a bunch of errands done, and even sit on the couch and read for 20 minutes… amazing. …

Weekend Recap: Catching a Breath on the (Campaign) Trail

I went into this weekend thinking I was barely going to have time to breathe, but fortunately, I ended up with more down time than I expected! Friday was admittedly very jammed… a few meetings ran over, and since my schedule was back-to-back-to-back, I didn’t have time to make up for anything I missed and ended up having to reschedule till this week. Oops! But I did get a ton of stuff done, including hosting a fabulous book club at my office to discuss The Opposite of Hate. Weekend Recap: Pillow Party, Trail Time, and Off to Camp

This was a super short weekend as I prepare to go off the grid for a full week. I’m volunteering as a counselor at California Experience Camp, a totally free camp for children who have experienced the death of a parent. I’ve gone through a lot of training to prep me for it, but I’m still pretty nervous and don’t fully know what to expect of the week. Wish me luck! Between prepping to be out of office for a full week (the longest I have ever taken off work in my entire career) and attending a funeral in Chicago on Wednesday, …

Weekend Recap: Tiki, Barbecue, and Trail Running

Running_Buddies_33rd_Birthday_Tiki_Party

This weekend started out with a splash: I threw my (belated) birthday party, and went with a Hawaiian tiki theme this year! Why tiki, you ask? Well, I love Asian food, and I also love tropical drinks… so this theme let me combine both 🙂 My party was set for Friday night at 6pm, and I had a busy day of meetings (including one that ran till 4:30pm downtown), so one of my menu priorities was things that could be prepped in advance. I ended up trying out two new-to-me crockpot recipes: Averie Cooks’ slow-cooker Hawaiian chicken, and Daring Gourmet’s …
