A great big ‘poor me’ complaint that you’d probably be better off skipping

I’m pretty down since getting back from Hawaii. I mean, I know Hawaii is way more exciting than New York… but it’s not just that. I’ve always been more of a suburban girl, but with all my friends in the city and seemingly all the high-powered high-status jobs here, it would feel like kind of a downgrade to move elsewhere. I hope that makes sense and doesn’t sound too snotty. But then I get comments like this while talking with one of my friends who works in banking: “I’m off work today. ‘Off work,’ even though I’ve already been called …

Race Report: Manhattan Half-Marathon

One of my New Year’s resolutions has been accomplished: this morning I completed my first half-marathon. THIRTEEN POINT ONE MILES. I am so proud of myself. I’ve never really thought of myself as a runner – which may be because growing up I definitely wasn’t one. I couldn’t even complete the mile run in gym class; I usually walked half of it. It was SO worth it though.) Anyway, the question is: if all …

Half-Marathon Here I Come!

I am totally in love with my new foam roller. I picked it up on Sunday after experiencing some nasty pain in my upper-outer-back thigh (from diagrams, I’m thinking the rectus femoris? #32 in that one). It started hurting last Monday, so I wasn’t sure if it was from my 12 mile run Saturday or the intense resistance training I did for my legs on Sunday. It wasn’t too bad – maybe a 4 on a pain scale – and only hurt while walking. Just a kind of general soreness, as if I had slept on it wrong. On Tuesday …

Hangovers and Running In Their Wake

I suppose I should have posted this on Tuesday morning, but I just discovered it today, and thought it might still be helpful for the weekend. All about hangovers, from Diet Detective. I’m fortunate enough not to ever get hungover. Some refer to it as a superpower. In any case, it’s a helpful trait to have on weekends when I want to go running but I drank a ridiculous amount the night before. In fact, this summer I did an 8 mile race the morning after attending a microbrew festival in Albany, NY, at which you were given a punch …
