Busy busy

Wow, after my posting blitz of like ten posts on Sunday, I didn’t post all week. It’s been a crazy one! I took all your doctor advice to heart, and ended up calling the Hospital for Special Surgery, who had two doctors that you guys recommended. As luck would have it, neither Dr. Halpern nor Dr. Metzl had openings, but I got one tomorrow with Dr. Demorest, who looks great. She specializes in female athletes, and has even published this article on preventing marathon injuries. My knees have still been sucking all week (even swimming hurt – I resorted to …

I (k)need help

My right knee was the one hurting me during the race, and is still a bit sore now. However, my left knee is now hurting too, worse than the right one. It feels like I twisted it at some point and now I have to be very, very careful only to move the joint straight forward and back with no lateral motion, and with my foot pointing in the exact direction my knee is going. (I don’t remember ever twisting it though). I can feel it even when I’m sitting doing nothing. How did this all of a sudden become …

Running through tendinitis will make it worse and prolong your recovery, says Davis. But treated early, it can heal in a few weeks. Here’s how: cross-train, ice, wear a patella strap, take anti-inflammatories, stretch, and do exercises to strengthen the joint and quadriceps, such as leg extensions. I definitely need to see a doctor and not just self-diagnose, but that sounds very close to …

Race Report: Run With the Horses

I don’t even want to write about it b/c I’m so upset about what happened. Let me cut to the chase since I already built up the suspense: basically, my marathon race turned into a 6 mile run and then a 20 mile nature walk of pain. Yes, I finished (barely), but I finished 90 minutes after I wanted to. The day started well – I had gone all-out to lay my gear out and have everything charged and ready to go. I even created a special “Run Wyoming” playlist that I was excited to run to! I woke up …

Why I’m not posting an 8 on the 8th report

I headed out yesterday with Garmin in tow planning to do my 8 on the 10th (not quite as cool, I know, but Friday was a busy day for me). I was excited to be able to use my Garmin to ensure that I ran exactly 8 miles for the “race”, and I hung out in the little park across from my building for a few minutes with my wrist held above my head, waiting to pick up the signal so I could start. After looking like a dork for 3 minutes and 22 seconds (the length of Tim McGraw’s …
