What I’m watching/reading

Happy Monday! Or… Tuesday. But after getting insanely sick this weekend, sleeping for 30 out of 36 hours, and then having to move my travel schedule to fly out Tuesday morning… my brain is a bit confused. Usually, Sunday is when I go to bed super early in preparation for my early morning flight, Monday is the longest day of the week, and then by Tuesday I start to get on a normal schedule (just in time for me to fly home on Thursday night and have another day that throws me off, since I work a full day but then …

Inspired by books

Yesterday, I finished book #3 in my quest to read a book every other day for the month of September: You Are An Ironman, by Jacques Steinberg. I actually didn’t love it quite as much as I expected, as I found some of the training stories to be boring. But when it came to race day, I was hooked! But now that it’s out of my system, I think I’m going to be cutting back again. I’m not going to the point of invoking Alcohol-Free September (though BF …

I ran!

Yesterday, I went for a run. People always think that’s not a big deal for me. Yes, I’ve run a ton of marathons… but that doesn’t mean I still don’t have trouble motivating myself to go out for a regular training run. Sometimes I joke that “I only run when I get a medal at the end!” but that’s actually only kind of a joke – not because I am so desperate for a cheap token on a ribbon, but because I often am just not motivated to go run when it’s not something I’ve committed to doing (either by …

New project, new me

On Wednesday, I start a brand new project. Along with the anticipation of new coworkers to meet and new work challenges to face, the week or so leading up to a new project also creates a bit of personal anxiety: how will this project affect my health and fitness? Long-time readers of the blog know that the traveling lifestyle of a consultant has always been a challenge for me. Monday mornings, I wake up at 4:30am just to shower and get to the airport – I’d have to wake up earlier if I wanted to get a morning workout in. …
