Feeling the Burn

Yesterday on the plane, I read The New Rules of Weight Lifting for Women. While its primary author is Lou Schuler, it has coauthors for the diet and fitness parts: Candace Forsythe and Alwyn Cosgrove, respectively. That last name sound familiar? Yup, Alwyn Cosgrove is the husband of Rachel Cosgrove’s The Female Body Breakthrough, which I was obsessed with for more than a few months! The fitness approach in The New Rules of Weightlifting turned out to be almost identical to Rachel Cosgrove’s book (though the nutrition components were different), but the logic behind it served to remind me why …

Weekend Blast from the Past

I got back from Japan on Monday with no jetlag (hooray!), but before I could even finish my recap post for you all, I got suddenly sick on Tuesday night with a high fever (101 – especially high given that my temperature is usually low and in the 97s). In amusing news, after having a hard time picking out some good medicine at the drugstore (they were all either flu or just fever, but nothing about my swollen throat), I Googled my very generic symptoms and found a Yahoo Answers post that was absolutely hilarious. Diet Book Review: Cinch, by Cynthia Sass

Yesterday while coming home on the plane, I read a diet book that I actually really enjoyed. Authored by Cynthia Sass, it’s called Cinch! Conquer Cravings, Drop Pounds, and Lose Inches. I first heard about it when Cynthia appeared on the Rachel Ray show to promote it, and it sounded extremely gimmicky; however, I saw it at my local library, I figured I’d give it a spin. Image credit: Amazon.com As it turned out, I ended up being pleasantly surprised! The initial “Fast Forward” quick start to the program was indeed gimmicky – make all your meals based on these …

Vacation recap, in brief

While this was a quick trip, mostly aimed at getting to run the Reggae Marathon, it ended up being a vacation that relaxed me almost as much and felt almost as fulfilling as a full week away. In an effort to keep this short and get this post up ASAP, I’m going to categorize the insights I gained this weekend. From books: I read Charlotte Hilton Andersen’s The Great Fitness Experiment, which I’d highly recommend. I’ve been reading her blog for years, but her book contained some new content and I found it really inspiring – expect a longer post …

First day of Slim, Calm, Sexy Yoga

I heard about Slim, Calm, Sexy Yoga from Melissa’s blog, and was totally intrigued. After all, who doesn’t want to be slim, cool, and sexy? Melissa’s little tidbit that she could totally see herself bringing it with her when I travel also got me jazzed. Thanks to a super short waiting list at the local library, I got the book pretty quickly, and decided last night to toss it in my rollerboard suitcase for my week in DC. As for what motivated me to give it a try, all I can say is there’s nothing like getting staffed in the …
