What I Read in March 2018

Best_Books_Of_March_2018

I only got to read another five books in the month of March, which keeps me eight books behind in my goal to read 100 books this year. On the bright side, though, I’m committing more to reading lately – and to finishing one book before I start another, rather than reading half of several books and then having to wait till they come up on the library list again! And also on the bright side, I loved three of the five books I read this month – all novels with thought-provoking premises, which I’d highly recommend. 5 stars: This …

What I Read in February 2018

Best_Books_Of_February_2018

Unfortunately, February was a pretty busy and stressful month, so I still didn’t step up my reading like I planned. I read only five books this month, which puts me eight books behind in my goal to read 100 books this year. Realistically, I don’t think things are going to ease up anytime soon, but I’m going to keep trying to sneak some reading in where I can. 5 stars: The Last Mrs. Parrish, by Liv Constantine: This was such an intriguing and engrossing read, I finished it in one night. (Oops – sorry, sleep.) The first half of the …

What I Read in January 2018

Best_Books_Of_January_2018

Yikes, I didn’t really start 2018 off well on the reading front! I am once again aiming to read 100 books this year, which is an average of about two books a week. Unfortunately, January found me well below target, having read only 3 books total for the month. Time to step it up for February! 4 stars: American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road, by Nick Bilton: My boss recommended this book to me, and it was fascinating! I knew next to nothing about the Silk Road before I started reading this, and …

What I Read in December 2017

Best_Books_Of_December_2017

I read seven books in December – which meant that for the first time, I beat my target of 100 books for the year by three books! This was a great year of reading, and I ended it with some great picks. 5 stars: The Year of Living Danishly: Uncovering the Secrets of the World’s Happiest Country, by Helen Russell: I absolutely loved this book, which was both witty and informative. The research is woven into the narrative seamlessly, and the author’s tone is light and sarcastic, reminding me a lot of the hilarious Jen Lancaster. Highly recommend this book …

Weekend Recap: Getting Hygge with Winter Cocktails

Miracle_on_Little_Raven_Cocktails

I just wrote my recap of the November books I enjoyed, but on Friday, I finished a really fabulous book that also set the tone for this weekend. Amber raved about The Year of Living Danishly, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a memoir about a writer who has to move to Denmark for her husband’s job, and she decides to spend the year researching why Danes are the happiest people on earth. The research is woven into the narrative seamlessly, and the author’s tone is light and sarcastic, reminding me a lot of the hilarious Jen Lancaster. Highly recommend this …
