August Goal Check In: Week 4

This week, my workouts were a little bit better than last. I unfortunately didn’t make much progress toward getting in lots of strength workouts, but I at least got the running workouts done successfully! Let’s check in on the week of 8/23-8/29 (week running Tuesday to Monday, since I last checked in on Monday): Tuesday: 4 mile tempo run, with splits of 8:57, 8:42, 8:20, and 7:54. I was so happy to get to change the pace every mile rather than die of boredom! At the time, I wished I could have gone faster, but yesterday I saw that I …

The Run That Made Me Grumpy

4_Mile_8_Min_Pace

People say there’s no such thing as a bad run. The only time I’ve heard that questioned is when someone gets injured on a run, or something similarly bad happens. But the conventional wisdom is that no matter what’s going on, you’ll always be in a better mood after a workout, right? That’s normally true for me, but today, I would argue that my run ruined my day. Adam has been an awesome coach as I’m working toward my goal of PRing in the 5K, and I’ve discovered that I really like having a coach. I’ve mentioned before that part of why …

August Goal: PR in the 5K

You might have noticed that I haven’t posted my goal for the month of August goal yet. I’m not giving up on having a different goal each month this year, but this month I’ve had quite a few setbacks. I wanted to run more, run faster, eat better, and get more sleep – so basically, multiple goals in one. However, on …

Did I Choose the Wrong Goal?

Adam_And_Laura_With_Deena_Kastor

I’m having an amazing time in Mammoth Lakes, California. This morning, we went out on a four mile trail run that took us from an old mining town, through various campsites, past a beautiful waterfall, and ended at a lake where we enjoyed a fabulous picnic brunch. Breakfast burritos, fresh fruit salad, and the best coffee cake I’ve ever had in my life! Our run was led by Olympic gold medalist Deena Kastor, and it was so awesome to run next to her and chat with her as we ran, like we’re just regular running buddies. After lunch, the fifteen of us on …

July Goal Progress: Week 2 Check In

It’s now the third week of the month, and I’ve only done one weekly check in on my goal to eat the frog? Shame on me. But a lot has happened in the last week though that’s had me in a bit of a tizzy. I did successfully block off a chunk of my workday mornings to deal with my most important thing of each day. However, we had some staffing changes at work that have resulted in a ton of new responsibility for me, and it’s taken me some time to come up to speed and get to a point where …
