July Challenge: Eat the Frog

Exercise_Early_In_the_Morning

Can you believe it’s July already?! June went by pretty fast, even though I gave up sugar for the month, and now I’m excited that summer is finally here. Sure, we’ve hit some record breaking high 90s temps in Colorado already, but to me, July is the first month that is wholly summer, and I am really pumped to make the most of it. In order to make the most of it, though, I want to try to get a slightly better handle on my time management. I’ve been feeling kind of overwhelmed lately, with many days consisting of back-to-back meetings so …

Turning A Flight Delay Into 8,000 Steps

Fitbit_Airport_Steps

Well, I am really glad that no-complaining month is over, because tonight I had a lot to complain about. I had not one but two flights get delayed three hours each. The kicker was this frustrating conversation: Me to gate agent: “I know it says we’ll be boarding in two minutes, but the gate is empty. Is our flight still on time?” Gate agent: “Oh, yes, definitely on time.” Me: “But it looks like our planned inbound aircraft hasn’t landed yet. Did we get an aircraft change?” Him: “Hmmm, I don’t think so. Let me see….” (tap tap tap) “Oh, yes, you’re right. The inbound …

May Goal Progress: Week 3 Check In

Oops, I totally missed doing an update last week! As I wrote last Wednesday, I gave up on tracking complaints over the weekend two weekends ago, but was attempting to get back to it last week. I didn’t quite get all the way back to the rigor of my tracking spreadsheet, but I still think I made a lot of progress. First, I finished reading A Complaint-Free World. Although I did find the book to be a bit lacking in tactical advice, it was heavy on inspiration. (Note: I do not consider that to be a complaint since it focuses on the positive.) …

May Goal Progress: Week 1 Check In

I think this month’s challenge to stop complaining is my hardest yet! I will fully admit that I don’t think I’m making much progress thus far, but I’m hoping to turn that around this week. Looking at “no complaining for a month” under the framework of SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timebound), I think it is achievable, (somewhat) realistic, and timebound. But where I’m struggling is that “no complaining” isn’t really specific or measurable. How do you define complaining? It seems easy until you try to catch yourself doing it. Over the last week, I’ve found myself in …

May Challenge: No Complaining

Complaining_Doesnt_Make_You_A_Martyr

Apologies for saying I’d post Tuesday about my May goal and then just leaving you hanging! It’s been a busy week and as a bit of a continuation of last month’s challenge, I ended up prioritizing sleeping over staying up to blog. I can’t say I really regret that decision 🙂 When I introduced my April challenge of sleeping eight hours a month, it was in part because I’ve been so slammed at work that I wasn’t taking time to rest. (Or, more recently, that I was waking up in the middle of the night and stressing about work.) But …
