Hiking Report: Manitou Incline

Laura_Atop_The_Manitou_Incline

In Colorado, kids go back to school crazy early – as in, school already started in my neighborhood last week! When I realized that was happening, I had a rude awakening that summer is almost over. Now, I don’t consider summer to be over until Labor Day, but that is still really closing in. And I haven’t made much progress on my summer bucket list at all 🙁 So this weekend, I went all-in and managed to check off three things on the list – and had a blast doing it. Thursday night, I went to a concert at Red …

Fitness on the Rocks 2017

Orangetheory_At_FOTR

Red Rocks Amphitheater is an incredible venue for concerts, which is why I have it on my summer bucket list to be sure that I see a show there. But it’s also a popular destination for workouts, with many people going in the early morning to run the stairs or do a bootcamp class. It’s normally open to everyone during the day, but on Saturday, it was closed except for ticketholders to one of my absolute favorite Colorado events: Fitness on the Rocks. I wasn’t able to attend Fitness on the Rocks last year, but I was incredibly impressed (and …

Pondering the Bolder Boulder

I feel like I’ve really been slacking on workouts lately. First there was the week of vacation, where I didn’t have access to any kind of gym. That’s obviously no excuse and I could have done some bodyweight workouts on my own… but I didn’t. I thought I’d get back on track the next week, but that was when I got really sick, and even navigating from one room to the next was problematic. No way could I exercise! Last week was finally my chance to get back into the swing of things and have a regular schedule, but it …

Coping (or Not) with the Unknown

Sticker_From_Eye_Doctor

Today was a pretty sucky day. It started out fine – my regular 6am call with India, and then I dashed off to Orangetheory, where I got in a pretty decent workout. But I got out of the gym to a whole bunch of messages on my phone – things at work were blowing up, and I needed to fight a whole bunch of fire drills that all demanded my attention right now. I managed to either take care of things or delegate them pretty quickly, and mostly pacify everyone, but doing all that left me only twelve minutes to shower, get …

Race Giveaway: Spring Equinox Run

Well, I’m back from the neurologist.. and I have very little to report. The brain MRI did turn up an abnormality in the form of a pineal cyst (that means a cyst on my pineal gland, which is responsible for melatonin production… so perhaps the cause of my recent insomnia??), but the symptoms associated with that are not at all the same as my stroke-like symptoms last week. My doctor says she likely wouldn’t recommend surgery to remove the cyst, because she believes it causes more problems than it solves, but I get to go through more testing (my favorite!) to learn …
