Do zero-calorie sweeteners really make "free" foods?

It always makes me cringe when I see people who are trying to “eat healthy” reaching for diet sodas and other products with artificial sweeteners. It’s not that I eat all organic or anything even remotely close to that. I do eat some chemicals in my diet, but I do try to avoid fake sugar. I find it really nasty tasting, and I was conditioned early in life by my mom that it was bad for you and not to touch it. By avoiding Splenda, Nutrasweet, Sucralose, and all the rest, it means I can’t down a liter of soda …

And now, live from my workout!

This post is coming to you direct from… the treadmill. As in, I am walking on the treadmill right now while typing this. How cool is that?! I’m staying at the Westin Copley Square this week, and while I was initially dismayed to find out that this particular Westin has discontinued the RunWestin program (where they have a “running concierge” who leads group running tours of the city every morning), I was mollified by getting a surprise: I got one of the two coveted WestinWorkout rooms on the property! I’ve had this recipe saved for a while, and never gotten around to making it. Today I had some chicken and some cilantro that was going bad, so I thought this would be a good fit. After picking up some prunes, I was good to go.Chicken recipe notes:I used 1/2 tbsp of oil, and 6 oz chicken. I kept the rest of the recipe as-is, just cut down for one serving. Salad recipe notes:You definitely don’t need that much oil for the dressing! For one serving, I used 1/4 tbsp oil, 1/4 tbsp red wine vinegar, and 1/4 tbsp lemon …

Race Report: Gridiron Classic (4 Miler)

This report is so long in coming; my apologies. I seem to work best under a deadline though, and what better deadline than knowing I have another race tomorrow? 🙂 I woke up at 7:29 AM, just before my alarm went off, and realized I was still a bit drunk from the wine I had the night before. That didn’t really faze me though; one of my best races was the 36th Distinguished Service Race 8 Mile, which I ran after attending Albany’s Lobster Festival (which, though the page doesn’t say it, is done in conjunction with a few dozen …
