No longer trapped, just trap(ezius)ed out

I think it’s kind of funny that this week I’ve been complaining about feeling trapped – and now my traps are incredibly sore from the workout I did to relieve that stress. Sorry, I’m a word geek like that. After my Monday meltdown, I spent yesterday getting back on track – and that included going back to Rachel Cosgrove’s Female Body Breakthrough. I talked a big game yesterday about how maybe I was too advanced to do the Base Phase again – while I haven’t been doing the Cosgrove program lately, I’ve still considered lifting to be a good substitute, …

Homesickness and a Free Figure 4 Class!

Sometimes it can be really tough for me to be away from home all the time. I get jealous of my friends at home who are able to to do the little things, like cook dinner or meet up on a weeknight. Last night, it hit me particularly hard – I had only gotten 3 hours of sleep the night before (was up stressing about a bunch of things), and when we wrapped up work around 7:30pm, all I wanted to do was go back to the hotel, have a protein bar or two as a quick dinner, and immediately …

Working out to work my energy up

I have been yawning all day. I’m starting to realize that this travel schedule is wreaking habit on my sleep schedule (yes, even despite second sleep, which doesn’t work now that I’ve switched to nonstop flights and need to spend the single flight preparing for the workday). On Mondays, I have to be up at 4:30am to get to Dallas by 9:30am (for the record, that does not include a workout), and then on Thursdays I get home at 12:30am (technically, that’s Friday) on my return flight… assuming it’s not delayed. Yikes! But this weekend, most of my friends are …

How running less can help you fly

Last night, I had what I considered the ultimate healthy weeknight: got out of work at an unprecedented 6:30pm, headed to Whole Foods to pick up the world’s largest salad, did a killer lifting workout at the hotel gym, and was in bed by 9pm (though I ended up getting totally caught up in finishing Divergent that I didn’t actually go to sleep until 10pm). If I could do this every night, I’d be in fantastic shape! But since this is (supposedly) a running blog, I often get questions about how the above can possibly be my preferred routine. Why …

My Lazy and Forgetful Muscles

Last night, I had a blast taking a Refine Method class with a lot of other fun NYC fitness bloggers. I had no idea what Refine was going into it – I thought it was going to be a barre class, and according to Theodora’s blog about the class, it was most definitely not (though I still don’t know what a barre class is either). We did a lot of different interval circuits – some body weight, some with cable pulley systems, and one or two with kettlebells (though we just used those as weights; we didn’t swing them around). …
