Planning for More Time Doing Nothing

East_Inlet_Trail_Grand_Lake

I recently read and loved this article by Nir Eyal on how Planning Ahead Is the Key to Living With More Spontaneity. The title is intriguingly contradictory, but it’s something I’ve known about myself for a while: if I can strictly plan everything I have to do (with the help of a to-do list or calendar), I can comfortably waste some time, even if everything else isn’t done yet. Timeboxing makes it a lot easier for me to enjoy the time I’m wasting, rather than worrying about “goofing off” and doing something unproductive, and it’s part of why I love …

Weekend Recap: Misty Meadow Mountain and Vail Beer Festival

Sadie_Misty_Meadow_Mountain

Friday was my company’s annual promotion day, where all the promotions for the year are announced, and we celebrate. This year, we were still obviously not doing an in-person celebration, but our local office arranged for a magician to perform on Zoom (and he was phenomenal, – I wasn’t expecting much over Zoom, but it was awesome!), and the national organization arranged for Keith Urban to perform. I haven’t really listened to much Keith Urban in a while, but I got really into it, singing and dancing in front of my laptop screen 🙂 Now I want to go to a …

Weekend Recap: Double Dog Date Weekend

Sadie_Loves_Heather_Avery

My work day on Friday ended in an excellent way – with a wine tasting! I had a pretty frenetic work day up until then, but it was really nice to know that there was a hard stop to the day. Weekend Recap: Mountain Weekend of Unplanned Rest Days

Elk_Calving_Trail_Closure

My weekend started out a little bit early, as I headed to the mountains Thursday after work. My company was giving us a four day weekend for Memorial Day, and I was excited to get started! I took a long time to get going on Friday morning, both reading in bed and then eventually really craving a bagel. I decided to go to Avon to pick one up before heading out to hike. On the way back, Sadie and I saw a moose on the side of the road, right next to the trailhead where I was planning to hike. …

Weekend Recap: Snake Training, Hiking, and an Unofficial Louisville Drinks Tour

Tiki_Bar_Popup_Louisville

My Friday night kicked off with a happy hour at Sanitas Brewing in Boulder with another Beaver Creek ski instructor. Tacos, quesadillas, and lots of talk about both running and skiing. It makes me excited to live in a place where so many people share my interests 🙂 I was able to get to bed early, which meant I easily woke up at 6am to take Sadie for a quick four mile run, before hustling to shower and get out the door to head up to Fort Collins. After a lot of research, I was taking her to a rattlesnake …
