Here I am!

While Hurricane Sandy gave us all a bit of a scare, I’ve been really fortunate to live in a pocket of town that didn’t lose either power or water. Despite my apartment being right on the river, we even felt safe spending  the night in my room instead of moving to our windowless living room (where I camped out for Hurricane Irene). See, mom? I was safe and sound the whole time! It was crazy to watch the scene across the river in New Jersey though: transformer explosions all up and down the coast, sirens constantly headed back and forth, …

Race Report: Rockaway Marathon

Carb loading on Friday night did not go so well. It started out with an incredible Italian restaurant I had never before tried, Trattoria Zero Otto Nove. As an appetizer, BF and I enjoyed delectable pizza – we both agreed it was among the best we’d had (and it wasn’t even thin crust, which I am usually partial to!). For my entree, I chose a mafalde (ribbon pasta) with sausage. Interview with VBarre Founder Veronica Combs

For the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to try out sessions of a new class at New York Sports Club – VBarre. “Vbarre transcends the typical ballet barre exercise class by blending ballet, Pilates and resistance training into a calorie-burning workout. Choreographed movements using a ballet barre, light weights and a glide board are set to motivating music.” After two months of classes at NYSC, I have to say – I am hooked! While the class uses extremely light weights and lots of repetitions, which I am …

Alcohol-Free August, Weekend 1

well, weekend 1 of Alcohol-Free August is now behind me, and I think that was the toughest – hopefully it will only get easier from here. As I mentioned last week, I was getting pretty psyched to begin, and thought I had a great list of potential activities (especially thanks to all your suggestions). But I’m not going to lie, when Friday night rolled around, it was hard to come up with something fun to do! It seems like the summer movies this year haven’t really been all that great (although I’m considering giving Celeste and Jesse Forever a shot …

Already thinking about next weekend

This week is the beginning of August, and ever since I decided to do Alcohol-Free August, I’ve been getting pretty excited for it to start. This weekend I had a bit of a last hurrah going to bars with friends, but now that’s probably not going to be quite such a big part of my weekends. I don’t plan to turn down nights out simply based on the fact that I won’t be drinking – it takes a lot more willpower to go and order a seltzer than to skip an event entirely, and I’m looking forward to strengthening my …
