Race Report: NYRR 60K (Part 1)

As I alluded to in my posts / tweets during the week, the night before my 60K, I was terrified. No, this wasn’t my first ultra, but my previous one was only 33 miles (covered as part of a 6 hour race) and it was smack dab in the middle of my 50 states, when I’d say I was in peak marathon shape. This time around, I was going to have to add an extra 11 miles to what I normally run – which at a 10:00 pace would be close to another two hours of running! Furthermore, the 6 …

Unbundling race "amenities"

This morning, I signed up for a 5K that’s coming up in the Dallas area: The Great Santa Run. It happens to be the same weekend as my company’s holiday party in Dallas, so I’m actually going to stick around here for the weekend instead of going back to NYC. The Great Santa Run is a little different than your normal 5K, though – all participants are given Santa suits to run in. I’m pretty excited for this festive holiday event! The race cost $35 – kind of expensive for a 5K, but you do get a Santa suit with …

Well, this weekend didn’t go exactly as planned. BF’s flight was a bit late getting in on Friday night, and that combined with us wanting to finally catch up (I hate being away so many days during the week!) meant I didn’t get to sleep until around 1am. Never mind getting up for 8:30am Tread class! We did get up in time for Flywheel though, which was fantastic. I was so excited to show BF what I’ve been to so many Dallas mornings when I call him all “OMG I am so dead from my workout!” While he’s always been sympathetic, …

New York City Marathon: Canceled

I wrote about the New York City Marathon on Wednesday, when I was disappointed with the NYRR’s and the city’s decision to continue with the race. However, since then, I’ve learned a lot more about the current situation across the city – and now, I am actively hoping they make the last-minute decision to cancel it. I kind of can’t believe I just wrote that. Canceling the marathon at this time would be even more difficult than had they canceled it outright. Since flights have resumed at some airports, many foreign runners have now traveled to New York, and you …

New York Sports Clubs Open to Help

By now, most people in the New York area seem to at least have found power. Maybe it’s a few miles away, but people have proved very resourceful in finding ways to recharge their laptops/cell phones/etc! Source: reddit/r/nyc, my new fav site for local info I’ve constantly been telling friends that if they want to come to my place, I can offer water, power, shelter, and some fresh-baked scones 🙂 But in case that’s too far for some of you, I heard today from my contact at New York Sports Clubs that they are officially opening their doors to help …
