June Goal Progress: Week 4 Check In

Laura_At_Pizza_And_Pints

It’s the final week of my no-sugar month, and I am so excited. There have been enough temptations in the last week that I have seriously considered cheating just this once and having a cookie (or whatever). But I stuck with it, didn’t cheat, and I’m pretty proud of myself for that. And, it will make dessert taste all that much sweeter come Friday! Not really too much to report this week that’s different than last week, though. I think what I’ve learned most from this challenge is not really about sugar, per se, but more about how much easier a …

June Goal Progress: Week 3 Check In

Sweaty_On_Superior_Trails

So what is the hardest part of no-sugar month? The darn heat wave that’s taken over most of the country! Despite the altitude, Colorado was unfortunately not spared the heat. It was in the high 90s all weekend – hot enough to where I started questioning why I had moved there instead of clear up to Canada. And then all I possibly wanted to eat was ice cream and smoothies and other frozen sweet things that I couldn’t have because of my sugar-free month. If you know a savory smoothie or popsicle recipe, please let me know. I refrained from making chicken …

Wow, halfway through the month already? I have had one day where I went over my self-imposed limit of 25 grams of sugar per day, but for the most part, this has been smooth sailing. When my friend Erika first got me into the no-sugar challenge last summer, she recommended a different approach. Rather than trying to deal with the minutiae of tallying up foods to figure out grams of sugar, we were supposed to just give up desserts or anything with added sugar. However, a debate over what counted as “added sugar” arose, and that was how I came to count grams …

June Goal Progress: Week 1 Check In

Week_One_Sugar_Tally

Time for a challenge update! After my first week of limiting my sugar to 25 grams or fewer per day, I now feel kind of guilty that I’ve been putting off doing a sugar-free challenge for a few months. This first week, at least, was really not that bad at all! I might actually go so far as to say that it’s been the easiest first week of any of my challenges this year. I’ve been using My Fitness Pal to log all my food, and then I’ve been checking out the nutrients tab in order to see how much …

Turning A Flight Delay Into 8,000 Steps

Fitbit_Airport_Steps

Well, I am really glad that no-complaining month is over, because tonight I had a lot to complain about. I had not one but two flights get delayed three hours each. The kicker was this frustrating conversation: Me to gate agent: “I know it says we’ll be boarding in two minutes, but the gate is empty. Is our flight still on time?” Gate agent: “Oh, yes, definitely on time.” Me: “But it looks like our planned inbound aircraft hasn’t landed yet. Did we get an aircraft change?” Him: “Hmmm, I don’t think so. Let me see….” (tap tap tap) “Oh, yes, you’re right. The inbound …
