September Goal Check In: Week 2

dilbert_walking_and_texting

Last week, I was really positive and excited about my progress in my one-touch email challenge. This week? Not so much. I ran into quite a few snags, and at times even abandoned the goal when I was feeling particularly stressed. I discovered that when I force myself to reply via phone, my responses tend to be very short. As any reader of this blog knows, I have a tendency to be very wordy. But I think my business correspondence already hits the right level of extra words to soften messages and make them friendlier. Forcing myself to respond immediately and via phone made …

September Goal Check In: Week 1

the_way_you_do_one_thing_is_the_way_you_do_everything

One full week into my one-touch email challenge, and while I’m not entirely successful in one-touching every email yet, I’m seeing a big productivity improvement from just this small mindset change – so I’m pretty pumped. In telling myself that I couldn’t open an email unless I was ready to respond to it, I shifted my mindset and now don’t delay on responses. Sometimes I do open an email without answering it immediately, particularly when I’m walking from one place to another and habitually click through my inbox without thinking about it. Oops! But when I get to my computer and sit down, I …

September Goal: One-Touch Email

Reality_Show_Email_Hoarding

Originally, I had thought that my September goal was going to still be to PR in the 5K, since I had a number of setbacks in my training for my August 5K goal. But after I ended up squeaking out a two second PR on Saturday, I decided to stick with my initial 2016 plan to have a different goal each month. I’m still going to continue to train for an even faster 5K, but that’s going to be a secondary goal rather than my main focus. Last week, I began reading How To Have a Good Day, an excellent book that summarizes a ton of …

Race Report: Run for the Horses 5K

Run_For_The_Horses_5K_PR

This weekend, I was up in Albany visiting family. My brothers are twins, and they each have two children – one of whom is born the same day as them, and one who’s born the day before. So Labor Day weekend is always a great time to go up and celebrate four birthdays at once! Knowing that I would be visiting Albany, I had decided that I’d run a 5K there, and it would be my goal race for the month. However, even going into the weekend, I hadn’t yet decided what race I would do. There were a few …

August Goal Check In: Week 4

This week, my workouts were a little bit better than last. I unfortunately didn’t make much progress toward getting in lots of strength workouts, but I at least got the running workouts done successfully! Let’s check in on the week of 8/23-8/29 (week running Tuesday to Monday, since I last checked in on Monday): Tuesday: 4 mile tempo run, with splits of 8:57, 8:42, 8:20, and 7:54. I was so happy to get to change the pace every mile rather than die of boredom! At the time, I wished I could have gone faster, but yesterday I saw that I …
