November Goal: Books > Facebook

I haven’t been blogging much this month, because I’ve had a lot of personal stuff going on that I don’t really want to air publicly. Unfortunately, all of that was further exacerbated this Wednesday, when I started to see the full backlash of the election results. It feels like the whole country is up in arms, and it doesn’t seem like the instability will go away any time soon. Over the past few days, I’ve realized that when I’ve been getting the most stressed is when I read the vitriol that fills up my Facebook newsfeed. I’ve never been much …

Book Review: Sweat Equity

We’ve all lamented how much money we spend on fitness. Running is supposed to be free – all you need is a pair of sneakers and you’re good to go, right? But I will fully admit to spending a lot of money on fitness – from clothing and gear, to race entry fees, to my beloved Classpass subscription. Sweat Equity: Inside the New Economy of Mind and Body, by Jason Kelly, takes a fascinating look at the business of fitness. May Goal Progress: Week 3 Check In

Oops, I totally missed doing an update last week! As I wrote last Wednesday, I gave up on tracking complaints over the weekend two weekends ago, but was attempting to get back to it last week. I didn’t quite get all the way back to the rigor of my tracking spreadsheet, but I still think I made a lot of progress. First, I finished reading A Complaint-Free World. Although I did find the book to be a bit lacking in tactical advice, it was heavy on inspiration. (Note: I do not consider that to be a complaint since it focuses on the positive.) …

Mostly Sleepless in South Carolina

Only_Kids_Count_Sheep

For my final week of my sleep challenge, I’m reading Arianna Huffington’s recently released book, The Sleep Revolution. The first half is basically all about why sleep is important, and then the second half is about how you actually go about getting enough sleep. I’m only halfway through so far (so have only done the “why it matters” part), but the book has already made a huge impression on me. Whether that’s for the better or not, though, remains to be seen. This week was only a two-day work week for me, since I’m on vacation in South Carolina today through …
