What I Read in January 2019

Best_Books_Of_January_2019

Only three books read in January, which means I’m not getting my year of reading off to a good start. However, I was sick this weekend and caught up on a lot of reading, so hopefully February will be better. I think I may just need to accept that with my other priorities, reading 100 books in a year may not be realistic for me anymore, and that’s okay. 5 stars: The Identicals, by Elin Hilderbrand: Loved this light and fun novel! At first I identified with Tabitha more than Harper, but Hilderbrand did a great job making them both twins …

What I Read in December 2018

In 2018, I had my lightest reading year since I started tracking my books in Goodreads in 2010. But it was a busy year, with my promotion, election campaign, and numerous personal endeavors! I read 3.5 books in December to close out the year with 64 books read. That’s still more than one a week, so not too bad even if it’s not my usual 100. However, I am redoubling my efforts for 2019, and am committing to read (a book, not my email or blogs) for at least a few minutes every night before I go to sleep. I’d …

What I Read in November 2018

Best_Books_Of_November_2018

I only read three books in November, so I think this year I’ll be revising my goal from 100 books to 70 books. Still respectable, but realistic! Now I just need to read aggressively in December, as I’m only up to 61 so far this year. Looking forward to winter break! 4 stars: Little Fires Everywhere, by Celeste Ng: I had heard about this book from SO many people, and it did end up being really good! It was really interesting to contrast the meticulously planned Shaker Heights with Mia’s rebellious creativity, and I thought the legal battle was fascinating. …

What I Read in October 2018

Best_Books_Of_October_2018

During the final month of my campaign, I hardly read at all. But in the interest of continuity, I’ll still do a quick review of the four books I read last month. (That puts me 27 books behind my goal to read 100 books this year; I’m currently at 60 total.) 5 stars: Run for Something: A Real-Talk Guide to Fixing the System Yourself, by Amanda Litman : Loved this fast-paced no-nonsense guide; I wish I had found it earlier in my own campaign! Many of the tactics weren’t applicable to my small race, but were insightful nonetheless. Highly recommend …

What I Read in September 2018

Best_Books_Of_September_2018

Did I even read in September? It feels like barely! But in the interest of continuity, I’ll still do a quick review of the four books I read last month. (And, while disappointing, the update on my goal to read 100 books in 2018 is that at 55 books total I’m 22 books behind. Le sigh.) 5 stars: The Opposite of Hate: A Field Guide to Repairing Our Humanity, by Sally Kohn: My office women’s book club read this for September, and we all loved it. I was bracing myself for a fairly biased read based on the author’s strong …
