Weekend Recap: Summer Festivals and Concerts

Tivoli_Club_Brass_Band

This past weekend was near perfect, with the exception that I didn’t spend almost any time at home! But there were so many fun things to do in Denver that I really didn’t mind 🙂 The weekend kicked off with one of my favorite work events of the year – a friends/family event on the Jack Daniels Roofdeck Terrace at Coors Field! I organized the event for my company, but I’ve learned over the years to bring on an extra person to hand out tickets so I can just relax and enjoy myself. We had about fifty people come this …

Race Recap: Ragnar Chicago, Part 1

Ragnar_Chicago_Leg_1_Handoff

This post is super delayed – whoops! I ran Ragnar Chicago with a group of my coworkers on May 18th/19th. We weren’t trying to be competitive, but I still thought I’d write up this “race report” for posterity 🙂 I’ve long been curious about Ragnar relays, as I’ve seen good friends do them and have a blast. But I had also heard a lot about arduous they can be. You’re packed into a van for two days, taking turns running and driving and sleeping. (Though I was told that the sleeping is very minimal.) You can’t shower, even though you’re …

Weekend Recap: Essentialism in Scheduling

Razzle_Dazzle_2018

This was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time! A huge variety of activities, quality time with a lot of wonderful people, and some epiphanies about how I want to schedule my weekends in the future. Friday was pretty hectic at work, but it ended with the bimonthly women’s book club that I run. This month, we were discussing Greg McKeown’s Essentialism, which I found fascinating and inspiring – I’d highly recommend it. I had thought that essentialism was going to be primarily be about cleaning out stuff, a la Marie Kondo, but it actually focused …

Weekend Recap: End of Rainy Spring

Jordan_Metzl_Workout_Stanley_Market

This weekend was pretty low-key, in large part to some bad weather most of the weekend! I’m about ready for summer, so it was kind of a bummer to have icky weather so often. First, on Friday, I hosted my annual Cinco de Mayo party (yes, a week late, due to lots of other fiestas last weekend). Unfortunately, the scheduling turned out to really not be in my favor. I originally planned to host the belated celebration on Saturday, but after realizing most people couldn’t attend, I changed it to Friday. Evite automatically sends out a reminder a few days before …

Weekend Recap: Holy Guacamole

Guac_Off

This weekend was Cinco de Mayo, which is always one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. Margaritas and tacos, what more can you ask for?! But my annual Cinco de Mayo party this year is becoming an “Once de Mayo” party next Friday; this weekend, I had a “guac off” and a fiesta-themed wedding to attend. I was working from home on Friday morning, and was able to take advantage of a listen-only all-hands call to chop up nine avocados for the two kinds of guacamole I was making. I never buy avocados (or make guacamole), in large part because I …
