Another marathon down the tubes

I posted a few days ago about how sometimes marathons just don’t work out. If you’re trying for 50 states, you have to recognize that things will get in the way of even the best-laid plans and push your timelines back. Unfortunately, it’s happened again. Today I was supposed to be en route to Alaska to run Humpy’s Marathon in Anchorage. I was supposed to be on a flight from JFK to Seattle at noon, landing at 3 PM, and then trying to fly standby on one of Alaska Air’s almost hourly flights to Anchorage. I thought it was a …

Marathons canceled

It started when I was hanging out at Boyfriend’s one morning and noticed a formal invitation sitting on his desk. Thinking he had unearthed the invitation to his brother’s wedding that weekend in order to prep, I picked it up, only to discover that it was actually an invitation for a different wedding on a different date. September 19, to be exact – the same weekend I had planned to do a double in North Dakota and Colorado. Bye bye, double weekend! Then last night, Boyfriend and I went to dinner with his mom. Boyfriend’s brother and his brother’s girlfriend …

How to refuel after a double? Deck diesel!

After a grueling weekend of two marathons, you’d think I’d be ridiculously sore and barely able to walk… but that’s not the case! Monday morning I woke up with about the level of soreness I normally have after just one marathon, which was a huge improvement over how I felt Saturday morning after the brutal downhill in Salt Lake City. Still, I planned to take a rest this weekend, and what better way to do that than with a day trip to the beach? I had been wanting to do a beach day trip for quite some time, but Boyfriend …

Race Report: Running With the Devil

This is a delayed race report. The actual race was run on June 27, 2009; I just suck at getting my race reports out in a timely manner. We finally got to McCarran Airport in Vegas around 1:30 AM, with a 30 minute drive to the hotel still ahead of us. Under normal circumstances, I would have been panicked, but I reasoned that the marathon didn’t start till 10 AM, so I was fine. However, I neglected to take into account the fact that my Mapquested directions were from the airport – not from the rental car location several miles …

Race Report: Deseret Morning News Marathon

Normally I’d start my race reports with the time I woke up, but this time I didn’t sleep, so I’ll just start where I left off! I got myself together for the race as quickly as possible, with the only big bummer being when I went to grab my iPod – unfortunately, it had turned itself on in my bag while in flight, and was totally out of batteries! There wasn’t time to charge it before I left, so I regretfully left my iPod and accessories (armband, headphones) at the hotel. I realized it was probably for the best anyway, …
