Night Before the Race: New Mexico Marathon

Despite allowing what I thought was plenty of time to get to the airport after the Seattle debacle, it turned out that I hadn’t accounted for just how long you have to wait for a train when you’re headed to the airport at 6 AM. My flight to Vegas was at 8 AM, and 7:40 found me sprinting through security to reach the flight. Upon arriving at the gate, the agent told me that she had had real seats, but gave them away to people who were below me on the standby list (because I wasn’t checked in or at …

Night Before the Marathon

Because of flight schedules, I took today off from work in order to get to Ashton, Idaho in time for the race. While I don’t like giving up my precious vacation days (I really don’t get that many), it was definitely a nice change of pace to arrive in town a bit early instead of just before the race. First up was a morning flight to Denver, on which I slept for three of the four hours. I beat Palin!

Sarah Palin’s marathon time at Humpy’s Marathon: 3:58:36 My marathon time at Humpy’s Marathon: 3:56:55 Not only did I beat her by almost two minutes, but I smashed my own PR (4:02:25) by 5.5 minutes!!! Full race report to come, but for now it’s time to head for the airport. 14 hours of travel to Alaska + 12 hours actually in Alaska + 14 hours traveling home = I am totally crazy, but also totally awesome!!!

Night Before the Marathon: Humpy’s Marathon

Bet you weren’t expecting to see that title anymore this weekend. Surprise! I’m in Anchorage. When I last posted, I was on the subway heading back to Manhattan from JFK. Sure enough, it took about 1.5 hours to get back (normally about a 40 min or less trip) – I took advantage of the time to get pretty far along in Philippa Gregory’s latest book, The Other Queen (loving it, by the way). Coming off the subway, I called Boyfriend to let him know what was up, and even though he had been really excited about having the weekend to …
