Breaking all the pre-marathon training rules

There are a lot of things you’re supposed to do to train for a marathon. Being a rebel, I have broken pretty much all of these tenets. It’s kind of a miracle I’m not crippled for life. 1. Build up your training gradually and have a set plan for whatever marathon you’ve chosen. My plan goes like this: I want to do a marathon. Hmm, that marathon sounds fun, and it’s in France! I’ve always wanted to go to France, and this would be a great reason. Oh, wait… the airport code for Dinard is DNR (Did Not Run). There is …

HELL YEAH I DID!

Rain: constant, with a torrential downpour a few minutes before the start Temperature: mid-40s (kind of chilly with the rain) My feet: soaked just from standing at the start Course: kind of hilly But there was no walking. Pop the ibuprofen, grab the ziplock bag for my iPod and the trash bags to wear over my clothes, and stay out of my way… I’m going to rock this race!!!

Race Report: Brooklyn Half Marathon

I woke up at 6:30 this morning feeling kind of tired. No big surprise there. Still, I wasn’t hungover, which was a plus. And I was psyched! I headed to the subway, and when I switched trains at Rockefeller Center, I found that there were about 6 other runners in my car. Two of …

Two half-marathons in two days – interim report

I’m on the flight to Providence. I’m sitting in an exit row, and the flight attendant asked me how old I am, because you have to be 15 to sit here, and she didn’t think I was. God, I look so embarrassingly young. Brooklyn went… well, it didn’t really go well, but I finished. And I got a PR. I’m going to type a report during the flight and post it once I get to my hotel. Quick teaser: I used a running pickup line and actually attracted a really cute guy. Right now I want to go to bed …
