June Goal Progress: Week 4 Check In

Laura_At_Pizza_And_Pints

It’s the final week of my no-sugar month, and I am so excited. There have been enough temptations in the last week that I have seriously considered cheating just this once and having a cookie (or whatever). But I stuck with it, didn’t cheat, and I’m pretty proud of myself for that. And, it will make dessert taste all that much sweeter come Friday! Not really too much to report this week that’s different than last week, though. I think what I’ve learned most from this challenge is not really about sugar, per se, but more about how much easier a …

Turning A Flight Delay Into 8,000 Steps

Fitbit_Airport_Steps

Well, I am really glad that no-complaining month is over, because tonight I had a lot to complain about. I had not one but two flights get delayed three hours each. The kicker was this frustrating conversation: Me to gate agent: “I know it says we’ll be boarding in two minutes, but the gate is empty. Is our flight still on time?” Gate agent: “Oh, yes, definitely on time.” Me: “But it looks like our planned inbound aircraft hasn’t landed yet. Did we get an aircraft change?” Him: “Hmmm, I don’t think so. Let me see….” (tap tap tap) “Oh, yes, you’re right. The inbound …

May Goal Progress: Week 1 Check In

I think this month’s challenge to stop complaining is my hardest yet! I will fully admit that I don’t think I’m making much progress thus far, but I’m hoping to turn that around this week. Looking at “no complaining for a month” under the framework of SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timebound), I think it is achievable, (somewhat) realistic, and timebound. But where I’m struggling is that “no complaining” isn’t really specific or measurable. How do you define complaining? It seems easy until you try to catch yourself doing it. Over the last week, I’ve found myself in …

May Challenge: No Complaining

Complaining_Doesnt_Make_You_A_Martyr

Apologies for saying I’d post Tuesday about my May goal and then just leaving you hanging! It’s been a busy week and as a bit of a continuation of last month’s challenge, I ended up prioritizing sleeping over staying up to blog. I can’t say I really regret that decision 🙂 When I introduced my April challenge of sleeping eight hours a month, it was in part because I’ve been so slammed at work that I wasn’t taking time to rest. (Or, more recently, that I was waking up in the middle of the night and stressing about work.) But …

April Goal Progress: Week 2 Check In

Well, it looks like my prediction last week was spot on. Turns out that when I’m not sick, it’s a lot harder to get my eight hours of sleep in! I had a lot of nights where I got home in time to get a full eight hours, but still came up short. At first, I was starting to think the problem is that I usually get up around 5am to work out. That means in order to get in eight hours of sleep, I’d have to go to bed by 9pm – which is pretty tough to do! But if I don’t work …
