Justification

Yesterday, I saved my hotel copy of USA Today. I saved it mostly for the crossword (finished it too – yay!), which is one of my favorite activities between pushback from the gate and cruising altitude when I can’t use my laptop, but one story caught my eye: Triathlons Pose a Greater Health Risk Than Marathons Clearly the only reason I didn’t end up training for the half-Ironman while I was unemployed is because I’m a smart cookie and knew this story was coming. However, if I did die in a triathlon, I would set a record as the youngest …

Unemployment has done wonders for my waistline… but it’s almost over

Since I lost my job, I haven’t really been going to the gym more (as I’ve explained before, when I know I can go anytime, there’s no reason to get off my butt and go right now), but I’ve gone out to eat a lot less. It’s not just the loss of expense account steak dinners; since I didn’t know when I’d have a job/full income again, I was trying to be frugal and cook at home more often rather than going out to eat. Anyway, I just want to go on the …

I was focusing on my arms, so I started with some rowing, which just gets my arms warmed up and my heart rate going, and then headed over to the assisted dip/pullup machine. I’ve been getting really good at pushing myself on that machine, and on the dips, I managed to do an entire set at level 8 (which means I was dipping about 80 pounds). Last year, when I thought I was pretty fit, I was at level 14 – …

Another ass-kicking from Jillian Michaels to get me back on the bandwagon

I got back from Europe last night, and it was all too soon that I was back to the old grind this morning. I’ve been working from home for a while, and while it sounds like a totally awesome deal, it actually kind of sucks – I sit home by myself all day, in bed, and no matter how much work I do, I feel completely unproductive and lonely. I’ve taken to turning on the television as background noise for company, and this morning when I turned on the Today show, their special guest was none other than Jillian Michaels! …
