Crafting my Victorious Entrance

Laura_Joking_Onstage

This week, I’m back at Terranea to deliver another week of my firm’s Discover program. I was really nervous for this session – much more than my first one as orchestrator, a few weeks ago. A few days after my last session, I got videos of my performance – and I was really unhappy with how I did. I was looking down at my notes a lot, and in the post-session feedback, some of the senior associates commented that it made me seem scripted rather than authentic. Although I still got great “scores” (my NPS was 78; that is, 82% said …

The Transparency of Making Choices

I’m on my way back from France – and I didn’t even write a blog post while there about what I was up to! I had some vendor workshops in Nice, so got to fly over and spend a few days in those. It was kind of a grueling schedule, what with the time change and work meetings/events going until 11pm or midnight every day, so it really felt like a whirlwind. I am exhausted now! Discover_Orchestration_Day_1

I am having an amazing time at Terranea Resort, orchestrating my firm’s “Senior Associate Leadership Development Experience” (which we shorten to be called “Discover”). One of my biggest worries with orchestrating this program is that I’m going to come off as manufactured or fake in …

Emphasizing my OOO

Last Thursday, I got a reminder from my company to check out my “total rewards” page on the intranet. I dutifully went to the page to make sure that my 401k and other investment allocations were where I wanted them to be, and I happened to glance over to another part of the page and see my vacation balance. As luck would have it, I had just earlier that day finished reading an interesting article in the Harvard Business Review around employees not taking their vacation… and I am definitely one of the guilty ones there. Although I earn 22 …

TGI Flyday – and Cheers to a New Beginning!

Funday_Fooze

In most of my consulting work where I’ve had to travel, the typical schedule is that you’re on site Monday through Thursday. Although we work from home (or in our local office) on Fridays, the fact that we actually get to go home and sleep in our own beds is always cause of celebration, so people will sometimes refer to Thursday as “consulting Friday”. My preferred Thursday catchphrase, though, is “TGI Flyday!” It’s been both a year since I’ve been traveling regularly for work, and also a year since I’ve been working with this particular client… and I have to …
