Several years ago, I stopped drinking caffeinated coffee regularly and switched to drinking decaf unless it’s a morning when I’m really tired and need an extra kick. That strategy has worked out phenomenally well – I still get to enjoy the deliciousness of a hot coffee in the morning, but when I’m tired, just one cup will get me going fine! However, most people drink caffeinated coffee and seem surprised when that isn’t what I want. Last week, I was flying to New York on an afternoon flight and stopped at an airport coffee shop to order a decaf coffee… and the barista had to ask someone else whether they can even do decaf coffee! Luckily, the answer was yes, so I was able to get my hot cup of deliciousness without impacting my sleep that night 🙂
On weekends, I always brew my own coffee – I think it’s an incredible waste of money to hit up Starbucks/etc when you’re not traveling. But even when I’m brewing coffee at home, it can be a challenge to find good decaf coffee, as most brands assume that everyone wants as much caffeine as possible. I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on specialty brands, so I was excited a few weeks ago to learn that Folgers makes a decaf hazelnut! My regular grocery store doesn’t carry this elusive flavor, but I was able to use the product locator to find it at a Publix in Florida and pick it up while I was there last week. Now I’m happy as a clam to have decaf coffee in my favorite flavor at home.
When you think of the Folgers brand, you probably immediately sing their catchy little jingle in your head: “The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup.” Well, this jingle is about to get an update. This year, Folgers has teamed up with country music singer-songwriter Chris Young to encourage aspiring musicians to embrace their iconic tune, but make it their own. They’ve announced the Folgers Jingle Contest, where anyone (famous or not) can try their hand at singing the classic tune in order to win a mentoring session with Chris Young and even a $25,000 prize!
The contest runs through February 27th, so you’ve got a few weeks to shoot your music video and upload it to the website. Your version of the Jingle must include the complete melody and complete lyrics of “The Best Part of Wakin’ Up is Folgers in Your Cup.” From February 27th to March 19th, Folgers will choose 5 semi-finalists and each will get a private mentoring session with Chris Young before the online vote. Then, from March 27th to April 24th, fans around the country will get the chance to vote daily for their favorite jingle. In May, one winning video will be selected and the creator(s) will win $25,000!
If you’re not so musically inclined (or just too shy to make a music video), you can still get in on the fun by watching the finalists’ videos and voting on your favorite. And you’re not left out of the prizes, either! Every vote automatically enters you to win prizes up to $10,000… pretty sweet.
