It’s Wednesday, and for me, the day has been dragging. I feel like I need to insert some kind of “you know you’re getting older when” joke here, but what I’m finding is that 6 hours of sleep for multiple nights in a row just does not work for me. Need to remember that when I’m not going to bed when I should!
When it gets to be afternoon, I don’t want to put more caffeine in my system. However, I do usually crave something small and sweet around 4pm, when eating lunch was a few hours ago but leaving the office and getting dinner is still several hours away. Enter: Adora Calcium Supplements.
I haven’t really been a vitamin fan for a while, ever since an incident where I overdosed on beta carotene because I was taking a multivitamin while still eating eating squash/pumpkin/carrots/etc like crazy. (What can I say, I love my veggies, especially in fall.) In general, while my diet is far from perfect, it tends to be varied enough that I don’t stress too much about getting the nutrients that I need.
However, according to the Council for Responsible Nutrition, approximately 15% of the population will experience osteoporosis as a medical event (e.g., a broken bone) each year, and calcium supplements can help reduce the risk by up to 18.6% – or basically, prevent osteoporosis in 1.2 million people! Outside of ice cream and cottage cheese (not together, ew!), I don’t eat a ton of dairy, so adding a bit more calcium to my diet sounded like a good idea.
And what better way to do that than with… chocolate! Adora Calcium Supplements come in the form of little chocolate disks that are about the same size as the gold chocolate coins I used to get in an Easter basket, meaning they’re small enough to not be a calorie-blowout but big enough to satisfy a mid-afternoon candy craving. Each disk is 30 calories and contains half your RDA of calcium, which means I don’t have to worry about getting too much if I pop one of these each afternoon. They also include vitamin D3 (to further improve bone health) and some extra magnesium (to increase absorption), and yet have a surprisingly simple ingredients list that makes me pretty comfortable eating them regularly.
Ingredients: Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Calcium Carbonate, Chocolate Liquor, Milk, Magnesium Oxide, Soy Lecithin (an emulsifier), Vanilla, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol, derived from lanolin).
The Adora supplements come in dark chocolate and milk chocolate flavors, and while I realize that dark chocolate is healthier, I prefer the extra sweetness of the milk chocolate 🙂 They come in bags of 30 individually-wrapped disks, which helps keep me honest about not eating the whole bag at once, plus keeps them fresh when I leave one bag at home (for weekends) and one bag at my desk in Dallas (for weekdays). And at only $7/bag on Amazon, they won’t break the bank either.

I always take a Vitamin B before bed, but that’s about it!
I am not a fan of vitamins and supplements although my latest blood work came back with some deficiencies which I found shocking – but also may have something to do with tiredness…but I usually just chalk that up to marathon training + long work days + attempts at a social life!
I do however LOVE adora dark chocolate guilt free chocolate fix 🙂
I take a vitamins: one pill with Calcium, Vitamin D, and Zinc
I do take a multivitamin and a probiotic supplement. I can’t stand the taste of yogurt.
I try to eat as healthy as possible but sometimes i take vitamins. Would love to try this!
I rely on both.
I never really take supplements but I need to!!
I try to eat healthy, but I take a daily multivitamin just in case I don’t get all that I need from my food.
