Surviving My First Blog Conference: BLEND Retreat 2013

This weekend, I was lucky enough to go to Utah for a really neat event: the BLEND Retreat. While BLEND is written in all caps like an acronym, it’s actually a cute little portmanteau for Blogging Friends. I love the “Blends” I’ve made writing this blog, traveling for races, and at fitness events in NYC, so what better way to meet lots of new “Blends” than a weekend retreat to one of my favorite states in the country? (It also didn’t hurt that I learned the Ogden Marathon was scheduled for the same weekend, so I could kill two birds …

Rewards and Punishments

For the last two weeks, Brynn from the Refine Challenge has been asking us to focus on two very important things: punishments and rewards. Without consequences, it’s way too easy to do whatever you want! However (unfortunately?), we are all adults, and punishments and rewards exist for all the choices we make in our life. For me, attending or skipping a workout comes with its own inherent punishments/rewards. Celebrating my accomplishments

I’ve been a bit of a lazy bones so far this week. Of course, I had the Christmas festivities on Monday/Tuesday, but starting on Wednesday, I basically became a sloth – lying in bed, catching up on email/blog stuff, catching up on TV, and reading a bit too. Thank goodness for Mr. Ray at Pedal NYC – he whipped me into shape! Action shot intentionally blurry because I was doing my inverted rows THAT fast, obviously. My arms were insanely sore all day yesterday, so I used that as an excuse to continue being lazy and not accomplishing much. Today, …

A relaxing and low-key Christmas

I have to admit, Christmas has never been my favorite holiday. First of all, my early Christmases were celebrated very differently than my friends’. My father is from Warsaw, so growing up, we went to a family friend’s home for “Wigelia,” the traditional Polish feast. In Poland, Christmas Eve is far more important than Christmas Day, and the tradition was to celebrate with a big feast that lasts until the wee hours of the morning. As a little kid, I would freak out about the fact that I wouldn’t be home and in bed at midnight – after all, isn’t that …

Wheat Belly and Carb Loading

My vacation last week had a few fun elements to it. I got to spend time with friends and family that I don’t often see, which was fantastic. I celebrated my birthday a whole bunch of times (thanks to conflicting schedules), which made me feel super special. I even got to go to a Counting Crows concert in Brooklyn, marking two things (seeing an outdoor concert and visiting an outer borough) off my “summer bucket list” that I intend to post about in a few days. At least I hope I make the time to write that soon – the …
