Race Report: 15K Colon Cancer Challenge

So after all that blogging about how I was going to run 18 miles today and maybe I would run the course twice… I felt like crap and it took all my energy not to give up in the first mile. Now, part of that may be because of my intense workouts yesterday. After seeing on Friday how much weight I had gained in the last two weeks, I decided this weekend was going to be a non-drinking exercise-a-thon, Biggest Loser style. On Biggest Loser, the contestants work out for 4-6 hours a day… craziness. I knew it would be …

Race Report: Bronx Half-Marathon

I was exhausted all day Saturday, and really not looking forward to the race. I did get myself to run to NYRR and back (~5 miles) in order to register and pick up my packet, which then made me committed. On Saturday night I tried to get to bed early (like, 8 or 9 PM – that’s how tired I was), but was up till 11. When my alarm went off at 6, I was less than thrilled. Actually, I was in the midst of a dream that I had already run the race, and woke up thinking I now …

This report is so long in coming; my apologies. I seem to work best under a deadline though, and what better deadline than knowing I have another race tomorrow? 🙂 I woke up at 7:29 AM, just before my alarm went off, and realized I was still a bit drunk from the wine I had the night before. That didn’t really faze me though; one of my best races was the 36th Distinguished Service Race 8 Mile, which I ran after attending Albany’s Lobster Festival (which, though the page doesn’t say it, is done in conjunction with a few dozen …

Race Report: Manhattan Half-Marathon

One of my New Year’s resolutions has been accomplished: this morning I completed my first half-marathon. THIRTEEN POINT ONE MILES. I am so proud of myself. I’ve never really thought of myself as a runner – which may be because growing up I definitely wasn’t one. I couldn’t even complete the mile run in gym class; I usually walked half of it. Then I slowly started getting into jogging when I was bored in Florida, and in the summer of 2006 I completed my first 5K. When I say completed, I mean I still couldn’t run the whole thing, but …

Race Report: Emerald Nuts Midnight Run

I am probably one of the first bloggers to be able to publish a race report for 2008… yay! On New Year’s Eve I did the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run, a 4 mile race sponsored by the New York Road Runners club. The twist was, I did a version of Beer Mile and attempted to take a shot for each mile of the four mile race. Here’s a list of top 10 do’s and don’ts in case you have any inclination to try something similar. DO pick a liquor that is tasty. Straight vodka, though it has the advantage of …
