Boston Marathon (Spectator’s) Report

Everyone else has been slow posting their Boston race reports, so I decided I’ll follow the trend (at least, I’ll pretend that’s why it took me so long). Here at last is my spectator’s report! After a really annoying flight on Sunday afternoon with a screaming baby behind me, I arrived in Boston in time for dinner. I was staying with my friend Adam, and to thank him, I took him out to dinner to a restaurant that’s been on my list to try for a while: Petit Robert Bistro on Comm Ave (yes, right on the marathon route). It …

Race Report: Cooper River Bridge Run

Sorry this is so delayed… I really need to get better about these reports or it will be July and you’ll be reading about my Turkey Trot! What can I say, work has been absolutely crazy lately (14+ hours/day!). On Friday, the Charlotte airport had a lot of delays, which pushed me about 3 hours back from my expected 1 PM arrival in Charleston. When my flight from Charlotte was finally boarding at 2:30, they asked for volunteers to step off and take the 4:30 flight instead. I seized the opportunity for a free roundtrip ticket anywhere in the country, …

Quickie Race Report: Cooper River Bridge Run

Short version: the incline on the bridge was fine for me, but a big deal to everyone else. The temperature was fine for everyone else, but very hot and a big deal for me. Now I remember why I live in the north! In all seriousness though, Charleston is absolutely gorgeous, and I might actually like to live here. I crossed the finish line at 52:11, but I’m not sure how many seconds back I started. Definitely not many. I have to wait for the official results to see if I beat my PR of 52:04 – it will be …

Race Report: Ras Na Heireann 5K

I’m going to follow the precedent set by Amanda for (day before) St. Patrick’s Day races, and cut right to the chase:Old 5K personal record – 27:21 (8:48 pace)New 5K personal record – 24:37 (7:56 pace) That’s right, I completely obliterated my old record and dropped almost a minute off my mile! And I’d also like to add that my first 5K was last June, when it took me 31:50. What a difference 9 months can make! (Insert some kind of joke about having a baby in that time… unfortunately I’m not clever enough to think of it) Anyway, my …

Race Report: NYRR 8000

Most people plan their running. They plan which races they’re going to run, they plan when and how they will train, they plan their rest days, and they even sometimes plan their drinking so as not to mess up their training schedule. Me? My style is a bit more ad hoc. Which is why I decided while nearly blackout drunk at 2 AM on Friday night that I would run the NYRR 8000 yesterday morning. The decision was prompted by a senior manager after an evening of drinking at the office and then heading out to a nearby watering hole …
