Weekend Recap: Deluge Lake and Tyson’s Fried Chicken

Laura_at_Deluge_Lake

My Friday started off rough – I woke up at 4am and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I read in bed until 6am. On the bright side, I finished two books in that time! (One was short, the other I was already halfway through.) I also had time to do a 30 minute Peloton class, and chose a 90s pop ride with Hannah Corbin, which put me in a great mood from the day! But my workout wasn’t over then. As soon as I was done on the bike, I changed out of my capris and into a bathing …

Weekend Recap: Bad News

Dorky_Laura_Helmet_and_Mask_Horseback_Riding

This was such a rollercoaster of a weekend. My first weekend getting together with a group of friends… but also lots of bad news too 🙁 Saturday morning kicked off with a quick four mile trail run with Sugar, which I hoped would sufficiently tire her out without wearing me out too much. Then, I dove into some leftover pumpkin baked oatmeal for breakfast, since I knew I needed a lot of energy. My friends Heather and Laura and I had agreed to do the “Tour De Matt” – a metaphorical marathon of seven Peloton bike classes taught by our …

Weekend Recap: Hitting the Boulder Trails

Wildflowers_Bear_Peak_Saddle

I went into the weekend without many plans; just a hiking date on Sunday morning. But Saturday, in particular, ended up being a pretty amazing impromptu day! My morning started taking Sugar out for a trail run. My plan was to head up Rattlesnake Gulch to the Continental Divide overlook, but when I got to the trailhead, it was totally packed. I guess I will need to curse 5280 Magazine all summer for spoiling this quiet spot in their magazine… hopefully by next year everyone forgets about it! I didn’t feel like dealing with the difficulty of keeping Sugar calm …

On Racism

Octavia_Spencer_Lanes

I’ve been pretty quiet on current events with racism and inequality, and unsurprisingly, a few people have called me out on social media for it. To be honest, I’ve been afraid of saying the wrong thing, and that’s kept me from saying much at all. But that’s not okay – I’m learning that silence can be perceived as synonymous with acceptance and consent. While I’ve found it way too difficult to express what’s in my head in something short enough to fit on Instagram, I thought a long-form blog post might be a good way to get my thoughts out …

Weekend Recap: Memorial Day Weekend

Rest_Day_Reading

I was soooooooo eager for the long weekend after a particularly tough week at work! Monday kicked off with an all-day video call for me to do performance reviews. These are always difficult (so many talented staff and not enough promotions / top ratings / bonuses to go around!), but sitting on a video call for fourteen hours straight was just brutal. At one point, around the twelve hour mark, I could see that literally every single person on the call had their head in their hands. Unfortunately, even when we wrapped up at 9pm, I didn’t get a good …
