Weekend Recap: Three Day MLK Weekend

Running_Down_Doudy_Draw

This year, my company declared Martin Luther King Day a holiday – so I went into Friday knowing I had a three day weekend ahead. To boost my mood even more, I took Sadie for an early morning hike up to Royal Arch – and we had an amazing time! It was an absolutely beautiful hike, and even though it was only 21°, we were both bundled up and it didn’t feel that cold. I was grateful that the cold kept other people off the trail – we had it almost all to ourselves, and saw only two other pairs …

Weekend Recap: Lazy Weekend at Home

Binging_Garretts_Popcorn

Although this was my first week back at work after the holiday break, it was a short week for me… stressful! But because there hadn’t been much terrain open at Beaver Creek in December when I first went for training, we were asked to come back for two days of follow up training, focused around levels and terrain progression (i.e., which trails are appropriate for which levels of students and which order should you progress students from one trail to the next). (No, not Mike Pence, though he was apparently skiing in Beaver Creek all week.) I was especially psyched that several of my guests came back for repeat classes with me, so I got …

Christmas_2020_Laura_Sue

While Thanksgiving was a bit of a letdown compared to my normal big gathering of friends and family, I’ve been used to having a small Christmas since I was a kid. Growing up, we didn’t have any family that lived close by, so most Christmases were spent just me and my parents. However, in Poland, the big celebration is actually on Christmas Eve (Wigilia) rather than on Christmas Day. If I’m honest, I used to hate the tradition of Wigilia when I was little. As a kid, I wanted to be like all the other kids – doing some sort …

Weekend Recap: Getting Into the Christmas Spirit

Socially_Distanced_Cookie_Swap

This year I’ve been very late in getting ready for Christmas. I normally put my tree and Christmas decorations up on Black Friday; this year, I delayed and delayed and finally put my (bare) tree up about a week ago. But this weekend, it was time to amp up and get in the holiday spirit! Work this week helped, with not just one but two (virtual) team happy hours on Thursday that helped me start getting excited for the break. Friday was a regular work day, but I woke up and started the day with Denis’ 30 minute holiday ride …
