Simple Colorado-Themed Party Menu

As I wrote on Saturday, this week is my “Coloradoversary” – the anniversary of both the day I moved to Colorado and the day I closed on my house. I celebrated on Saturday night with a big party for all my friends, and it was a blast! For a Colorado-themed menu, I started with the most obviously Coloradan food: pork green chili. I don’t know the origins, but green chili is all over the place here – smothering burritos, omelets, fries, or just in a delicious bowl by itself. I had never attempted making green chili before (though you can check …

Dance Party Weekend

I kicked off the weekend with my company holiday party on Friday night. It was held at the Edison Ballroom in midtown, which turned out to be a pretty swanky spot! It was decorated to the nines and full of uniformed staff handing out hors d’oeuvres and drinks from silver trees – not too shabby at all. Burger Bash

A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from one of the mailing lists that I’m on advertising the Food Network Food and Wine Festival. There were a lot of events, but the one that really caught my eye was the Blue Moon Burger Bash hosted by Rachael Ray. My favorite (mainstream) beer and my favorite celebrity chef? Sold! Well, unfortunately not sold after I saw the ticket price of $300. I gave up on my hopes of attending once I saw that exorbitant price for a night of beer and burgers. A few days after the initial e-mail, however, …

Healthy Meal: Vegetarian Chili and TGI Friday’s Spinach Artichoke Dip

I promised you full writeups of my healthy Superbowl recipes, so here you go! I didn’t end up making the chicken because I ran out of parmesan, and the chili and dip was filling enough that I didn’t need it anyway. I’ll make that recipe another time and review it. Chili recipe notes:I use just one tbsp of olive oil – it’s still enough. This time, I skipped the turkey and replaced it with textured vegetable protein (TVP) to make it vegetarian, but I’ve made it in the past with just turkey, and even with both turkey and TVP. I …

Healthy Super Bowl Snacks

With the Superbowl tomorrow, everyone on a diet is dreading a day typically full of chips, beer, and calorie-heavy snacks. There are a ton of articles with healthy recipes (check out Hungry-Girl and Poked and Prodded for some that look great). If you’re going to a party and you’re on a diet, bring your own yummies and try to avoid (or at least minimize) the other stuff. For my Superbowl plans, I’m running in the NYRR Gridiron Classic (4 miler) first thing in the morning. I ran over to NYRR today to pick up my packet/t-shirt, and it was 4.95 …
