Race Report: Colfax Marathon

Mile High Selfie

This is a delayed race report; I ran the Colfax Marathon on May 18. I knew going into the weekend that it was going to be a fairly low-key one, since most of my friends in Colorado weren’t going to be in town. In spite of that, though, Friday ended up being pretty busy after all – I took a cool training class on the retail/consumer products industry, attended an all-advisory meet-and-greet lunch at the office, worked on a really fascinating new proposal, and also stopped by the Colfax Marathon expo. I had agreed to pick up the packets for …

2014 NYC Marathon: Will You Be In?

The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of New York Road Runners (NYRR). While the overall theme of my blog has been marathons and goal setting, it feels like forever since I’ve run a marathon. It seems like every January, I kind of run into this a little bit – the holidays and cold weather make the races fewer and farther between, and I always look at March as when “spring marathon season” starts back up in earnest. I could not believe how unbelievably lucky I was to get to run my 100th marathon in my hometown, with thousands upon thousands of cheering fans every step of the way. Most were strangers, but every so often I’d see someone I knew in the …

Marathon Motivational Tip: Fake it till you make it

Still working on my NYC Marathon race report (part 2 here!), but this week has been a little crazy/abnormal since I’ve been working 12-15 hours a day since Sunday facilitating a week-long training course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Don’t feel too sorry for me, though – although I’m waking up at 5am every day so that I’m able to get materials/logistics set for the participants to start at 8am, other times I get to do fun things like supervise the Tai Chi sessions in gorgeous settings like this: The program is really cool – it’s one that I went …

Race Report: ING New York City Marathon (Part 2)

When I left off with Part 1, I was crying at the start as New York, New York played over the loudspeakers. Not a bad cliffhanger, huh? It took a little while for me to cross the start since I was toward the back of my wave, but that was just fine with me – it meant more time to sing along with Frank Sinatra and hopefully get my tears over with before starting to run. However, it did not apparently give me the time to actually think about what I was doing – because I was at least a …
