New Year’s Party Menu

Things have been a little nutty around here as I pack up my home and prepare to move to my dream home in the foothills this Friday! (I can’t believe it’s only 5 days away… I’m excited but there is still so much to do.) With all the stress of moving, I completely neglected to send a New Year’s party invite until Thursday, three days before New Year’s, but I was thrilled to still have about 20 dear friends join me to close out 2023 and ring in 2024. I guess everyone else was similarly ambivalent about committing to a …

Tiki Birthday Party Menu

I wrote about my French Alps party menu for my birthday party in the mountains, which was a blast. The following Saturday, I was thrilled to host a big group of friends for a tiki-themed party at my house in Superior! The tiki theme was one I had used before, but both times I’ve picked this as my birthday party theme, it’s stemmed from me wanting tropical frozen drinks and Chinese food. Fourth of July Party Menu

Laura standing in a blue dress with a white wine glass topped with red pop rocks

Ever since 2020, I haven’t been hosting dinner parties with the frequency I once did. But I miss doing that! I have such a blast coming up with a theme, planning a menu, and cooking up a storm for all my friends. I’ve been trying in the past few months to get back to it a little bit more, hosting a Kentucky Derby party in May, a Juneteenth dinner in June, and now, an Independence Day party in July. Since my blog is as much for my own memory archival as it is for readers, I hope you don’t mind …

Navigating the Midlife Crossroads

Laura_Teaching_Skiing_On_Highlands_Lift

I just reread my New Year’s post, and while it ended on a positive note, it was definitely a bit of a downer. I was excited that things were trending upwards, but also afraid that they wouldn’t stay that way. What calamities were still to come?! But I’ve now gotten through February, and things have indeed been getting better and better. As I’ve discussed with my therapist, I keep thinking, “ah, now I’m back to the way I used to be!”… and then a few days later, I feel better still! I hesitate to say I’m totally better, as I recognize that …
