Weekend Recap: Independence on the Trails

Laura_Backpacking_Buffalo_Lakes

I wrote last week how I was really dreading the holiday weekend. Mostly, I think it was because I’ve been looking forward to the long break from work for weeks… but now that it was here, I was disappointed in the plans I had made. However, it ended up all turning out much better than I expected! (Hooray for low expectations!) On Thursday, I had wanted to do the Skyline Traverse – an 18.5 mile hike that covers 5774 feet of vert. It’s no joke! I’ve wanted to do this hike for years, and was hoping this would be the …

Weekend Recap: Regrouping

I have been really stressed lately – and unfortunately, this weekend that all came to a head. On Thursday night, despite a delay in my first flight out of Charlottesville, Virginia (where I went for a recruiting trip and got to relive some nostalgia and once again enjoy one of the best meals of my life at The Flat creperie), I made my connection and got home on time. Good thing, because when I landed at Denver Airport, my coworker / friend Elizabeth was waiting for me. I was looking forward to having her join me to ski Vail for the weekend! …

Weekend Recap: Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Santacon, and Monet

Monet_Geese

Recap of November 27 to December 1 This was a lovely long weekend from Thanksgiving Thursday to Sunday! And my mom was with me in Colorado the whole time, which made me really happy. I’m working on convincing her to move, and I think it’s starting to work, as she periodically sends me houses on Zillow she’s looking at 🙂 Speaking of houses, to start Thanksgiving extra thankful, Mom and I headed up to the mountains after I finished work on Wednesday. I haven’t been up there in more than 2.5 months (since my calf injury, because I couldn’t trail …

Weekend Recap: Tiny Beautiful Things

Girls_at_Aunt_Ann_Dinner

Weekend of October 11-12 After a busy Friday of work, I was psyched for some really fun plans Friday night: dinner and a night at the theater with my friend Kelly and her family! I’ve gotten to know Kelly’s wonderful Aunt Ann and Uncle Jim at Kelly’s wedding eight years ago, and now am delighted to get to see them whenever they come to town. Our first stop was Zolo Grill in Boulder – a Mexican restaurant right in the middle of a shopping district I often frequent, but to which I had never been. The food was great, and …

Race Report: Bolder Boulder 10K

Bolder_Boulder_Stadium_2019

Race report from May 27, 2019 I signed up for the Bolder Boulder several months ago, as has become tradition. (I love having a Memorial Day running tradition – it used to be Vermont City Marathon, now it’s Bolder Boulder!) However, I really haven’t been running much, and expected I’d be much slower this year than in years past. Which is fine – if I haven’t been training, I can’t expect much, right? I had a blast running a lot of miles at Ragnar Virginia, which helped me realize that maybe my endurance is better than I expected. But then I totally …
