What I Read in September 2021

Best_Books_Of_September_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all ten books I read in September 2021. 5 stars: Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir: I was a little nervous to read this book, since Artemis was a bit of a let-down after how incredible The Martian was. But in this book, Weir gets back to his roots and really wowed me – I couldn’t put this down, and read it in two days! Ryland Grace wakes up on what he soon figures out is a space ship, but he doesn’t know why or how he got there… and he doesn’t …

What I Read in August 2021

Best_Books_Of_August_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all six books I read in August 2021. 5 stars: Getting His Game Back, by Gia de Cadenet: Love, love, LOVED this smart chick-lit romance, which tackled a lot of difficult themes (interracial dating, race and bias in the corporate world, and mental health) without coming across as didactic. Khalil is a white man and a former player (of basketball and of women) who has been struggling with depression after a breakup; he is trying to “get his game back” (hence the title). Vanessa is a black woman who is the successful …

What I Read in July 2021

Best_Books_Of_July_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all eight books I read in July 2021. 4 stars: Perfect Timing, by Owen Nicholls: This was a really interesting and long drawn out love story. Tom and Jess have a meet cute, but the timing isn’t right, and they continue getting the timing wrong for years. It’s really interesting to see how their paths keep crossing, and they keep miscommunicating. This wasn’t a light read, so not your typical rom com, but I still really enjoyed it – it actually felt a bit more believable because it wasn’t so saccharine. I …

What I Read in June 2021

Best_Books_Of_June_2021

This is a catch up post, but includes all six books I read in June 2021. 4 stars: Ghosts, by Dolly Alderton: I really enjoyed this book, which had a lot of smart insights about relationships and life. Nina is a successful food writer in her 30s, who is also single – but it seems like things are on the upswing when she meets Max and on their first date, he declares he’s going to marry her. But then he suddenly and inexplicably ghosts her right after they both say “I love you.” The book as a whole explores how …

What I Read in May 2021

Best_Books_Of_May_2021

Eight books read in May – I am picking up steam a bit! I stuck to almost exclusively fiction in May, with one non-fiction self-help-y book thrown in. (Though there were several historical fiction novels… so maybe that counts for something?) These days, I am finding the compelling storylines of novels to keep me reading much more than nonfiction. 5 stars: The Book of Lost Names, by Kristin Harmel: I picked this up on a night I intended to go to bed early… and ended up staying up to finish it that same night! This was such an intriguing story. …
