Weekend Recap: My New Quarantine Pod

This week has been really different – so much is changing in my life! My role at work has changed quite a bit due to COVID19, and there’s also the major lifestyle change that where I used to fly all over the country 50 weeks a year, I now haven’t set foot on a plane since March. Meanwhile, I have a new boyfriend (and his kids) I’m adjusting my life around, and on Tuesday, my mom moved in with me. All of this is stuff I would never have imagined in February; it is certainly interesting living in This Unprecedented …

Weekend Recap: The Calm Before the Storm

Tapatio_and_Guacamole_Cake

This weekend was the calm before the storm. J didn’t have the kids this weekend, and it was my last weekend living alone before my mom would move in with me on Tuesday. We made the most of it! Friday night kicked off with a very belated Cinco de Mayo (Nueve de Octubre?) celebration – I invited my friends Chris and Mark and their kids over on Friday night for dinner on the deck with J and I. We picked up takeout food from Tapatio, where we used to go for dinner and margaritas in the pre-COVID time. We have …

Olsen_Lake_Views

I headed up to Minturn on Friday at lunchtime, arriving in time to take my final calls of the day from my house there. However, the internet there was being weird, and I had trouble getting my video to work on my final call of the day – frustrating! Although this internet issue has never happened before, I always feel guilty when I work from my mountain house – like I’m playing hooky by being out there rather than at home. Kind of silly in these remote working times, I know! After work, I headed to Home Depot and the …

Weekend Recap: Fried Chicken in the Mountains

Fall_Foliage_Game_Creek_Trail

This weekend was absolutely perfect… to the point that I kept asking, is this real life? On Friday, as soon as I wrapped up my calls, I headed over to J’s house for dinner. He prepared an amazing carne asada for dinner, which we enjoyed on his patio with a  bottle of red wine. The air was slightly crisp, but it was just warm enough where we were comfortable eating outside and not cold. And the twinkling lights overhead just made it feel magical! The next morning, we had a bit of a lazy morning around the house, followed by …

Race Report: Sangre de Cristo 50 Mile

Thumbs_Up_Not_Dying

In the days leading up to the Sangre de Cristo, I started getting cold feet… and especially when I started packing. Ultramarathons require so much stuff!! It reminded me of doing a triathlon, in a bad way – one of the things I liked least about doing a tri was how much equipment could make or break your race, and it seemed like that was also the case with doing an ultra. Whatever happened to just putting your sneakers on and going out for a run?! I toyed with the idea of just ignoring the “drop bags” (bags you pack ahead …
