Weekend Recap: Regrouping

I have been really stressed lately – and unfortunately, this weekend that all came to a head. On Thursday night, despite a delay in my first flight out of Charlottesville, Virginia (where I went for a recruiting trip and got to relive some nostalgia and once again enjoy one of the best meals of my life at The Flat creperie), I made my connection and got home on time. Good thing, because when I landed at Denver Airport, my coworker / friend Elizabeth was waiting for me. I was looking forward to having her join me to ski Vail for the weekend! …

Weekend Recap: Vail “Meet in the Mountains”

Laura_in_Ouzo_Glade

It was another busy week at work, and my day on Friday was a bit crazy. I ended with an event at the office that went until 5pm… which was a lot of fun, but meant that I was leaving downtown Denver at peak rush hour! Not ideal for getting out to the mountains, unfortunately 🙁 To my surprise, though, traffic wasn’t too bad. I only lost about 20 minutes from the no-traffic drive time, and made it to Silverthorne without any frustration. After a quick stop there to drop off some stuff at a friend’s house, I was back on …

The_Rose_2020_New_Years

I left Albany on Christmas Eve, expecting to be home by 6pm. Unfortunately, United had other plans for me 🙁 My original flight from Albany to Chicago was several hours delayed, which pushed me to a later connecting flight as well. I didn’t end up landing until 8pm, and rushed home to drop my stuff off and change, then headed downtown for a wine date at Barcelona. Nice cozy way to close out Christmas Eve and put all the travel stress behind me! On Christmas morning, I woke up early to throw some things in the car, then headed for …

Vacation Recap: Winter Break, Week 1

Where to even begin with this recap? It’s been an amazing two full weeks off work, and while not everything played out exactly as expected, I’m pretty happy with how I spent my time. The Thursday before Christmas, I flew from Atlanta (where my client is) up to Albany (where my family is). My dad picked me up when I landed, and we hit the mall for me to pick up some Christmas gifts in store – a lot easier than trying to carry them all on the plane! From there, we met up with my mom for a little …

Two Nights Before the Race: HITS Sarasota Olympic Triathlon

Triathlon_Skeptic_Checked_Bags

I’m really nervous. I’m on a plane to do my first triathlon on Sunday – the HITS Sarasota, Olympic distance. I feel reasonably prepared from a physical standpoint (well, mostly), but there is a lot lacking in my preparation. Namely, around all the stuff. One big selling point for running is that all you really need is a well-fitting pair of sneakers , even if you’re doing a full marathon. A watch? Helpful but not necessary. Gels / fancy nutrition? They hand it out along the course (as long as you’re not too particular about what kind you eat). Special …
