Prelude to a Race / Mini-Marriott Review

As I mentioned yesterday, most people seem to plan their races in advance. But yesterday morning, I found myself on the 8:30 flight to Boston, knowing that I was going to do a race, but not sure which. There was a 5K in South Boston sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club. That one started at 10 AM, so the question was if I would make it there in time. There was a “hash” in Cambridge complete with drinking and a St. Patrick’s Day bar crawl, where the question was if I was brave enough to join this group of …

Where have all the serious screeners gone?

I am so angry right now. I’m sitting in the airport right now, having missed my flight by 2 minutes. There is nothing worse than missing a flight by that small of a margin… except maybe missing it by that small of a margin because the jerky perv in security delayed me because he wanted to flirt with me longer. I got to the airport at 4:15, with the flight at 4:30. That was just exactly enough time to buy a ticket, get through security, and get to the gate before it closed. Running in the dark and talking to strangers

Basically, tonight I did several things that are very big not-supposed-tos. It’s a good thing my mom doesn’t read my blog, or she would kill me! Here’s how it all went down… I got out of work really early tonight, and it was actually light out! I was amazed. It took absolutely forever for my cab to get me back …

Trading the river run for an indoor cycle

This morning I managed to drag myself out of my Heavenly Bed at 5:45 AM, intending to get a nice long run in before getting ready and going off to work. Andy had kindly provided me with a great running map of the Charles River, which was good because I still haven’t gotten my act together to stop by the concierge desk and pick up the running maps that are supposed to be available. Unfortunately, when I pulled back the heavy curtains to see what the weather was like, I saw: darkness. Foiled by daylight savings. Being the hardcore runner …

Ah, the Monday morning pat-down…

I get special security screening 90% of the time I travel, because I’m quite a suspicious character. I always buy my tickets at the airport, usually with less than an hour until the flight (sometimes, less than 30 minutes). I always buy one way tickets, never round-trip. Because who knows when the client will let me go home? I always glide through security with the self-assured air of someone who knows the system very well. Maybe too well. And clearly, I just look like a terrorist. Is it sad that when the security guard feels me up, that’s the most …
