At the Phoenix Airport

Boyfriend and I came out here to visit his parents (they have a house here and will be moving full time when they retire in the next year), and it was so strange to me to be traveling without doing a marathon! We had dinner at JFK before our flight, and I found myself ordering pasta and eating tons of bread… it’s just what I do at airports on Friday night! Unfortunately, I don’t think the carbs were quite necessary for my grueling Saturday workout of lying by the pool and tanning. They were especially not necessary when you consider …

Getting stronger

No marathons for me this weekend – I’m off to Phoenix for some sun, fun, Mexican food, and margaritas! Boyfriend’s parents have a house there and will be moving full time later this year, so they invited us to join them for part of their Memorial Day vacation. Knowing that I wasn’t going to be burning 2620 calories, I sternly forced myself to get a workout in early this morning before leaving for work. Day Before the Marathon

My flight to Burlington was a bit delayed, so I got to spend a bit longer at JFK than I planned. This was fine with me, since I wanted to grab lunch at the airport anyway. Despite my problems in the past with finding appropriate pre-marathon carbs at the airport (finding carbs without dairy or tons of oil can be tough), I was pleased to discover that my airline’s terminal had a TON of options! A pasta bar, a pizza bar (which included one pie without cheese), a sushi bar, and a buffet that had what I ultimately chose: Spanish …

I’m not running a marathon today

I could have been struggling to find non-cheesy carbs at the Chicago airport last night… but I was drinking beers on Stone Street with Boyfriend and his coworkers. I could have been at the starting line in South Dakota with my adrenaline flowing… but I was in my bed in New York, sound asleep with the melatonin flowing. I could have been sucking down a vanilla orange Gu Roctane at a water stop… but I was eating french toast bites infused with apricot brandy tea and topped with vanilla creme anglaise at Alice’s Tea Cup. I could have been racing …

Memorial Day Weekend Plans

Today I got an interesting offer: to be a pacer for the Key Bank Vermont City Marathon. As long-time readers will remember, the VCM was my first marathon ever. (It was also supposed to be my only marathon ever, but that didn’t really work out). I picked it because it was close enough that my mom and high school best friend could easily come, it was a big field but not a mega-marathon, and most importantly, it was sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s and had all-you-can-eat ice cream at the finish line. It ended up being an amazing experience: I …
